Relocating to London in the early '90s, they added Danish-born guitarist Nikolaj Juel and completed Addict's lineup when drummer Luke Bullen joined in 1995. The band signed to Big Cat/V2 late the following year after tightening up as a live unit. In early 1997, there was the release of a limited-edition EP, which was well-received by the press and earned comparisons to Radiohead.
Enlisting producer David Bianco, who had come off working with Teenage Fanclub, Addict recorded their debut album, Stones, in Los Angeles, releasing it in 1998. Despite more favorable reviews, Stones failed to make much of an impact on either side of the Atlantic and Addict has been quiet since its issue...

After signing to V2 Records in 1997 Addict released their first album "STONES" in 1998. The band spent the next two years touring the record, predominantly in the states, until they landed in New Orleans to record their second album. The second record was to be a departure from the rock album that was "stones" as Mark Aston in particular wanted to move on musically and make a record that was more refined and mature than the first.
"COME ON SUN" was the result of six weeks in the studio with producer Malcomn Burns with contributions from the likes of Emmy Lou Harris, N'dea Davenport and the best brass section in New Orleans. It was a dramatic departure from the first record so much so that V2 decided that to release the record would be like starting from scratch again so the band were dropped and the record never released.
Zanderman was formed from the ashes of Addict but little was achieved due in part to differences of opinions as to how the band should grow musically. An acoustic album "Live at the Kashmir" was released on the bands own label but in June 2001 Zanderman split. After 8 years working together the end of the band was a blow to all involved.
You'll now find drummer Luke Bullen playing as part of his fiance's (KT Tunstall) band.

Addict Lyrics

It's just like me to tell tales
I know it weighs heavy
But it doesn't have to be this way
Just let the stones fall from their slings
You know you can throw sharper things
Just let the pain fold away
You'll slip your chains sooner that way
Is just like a test that never fails
And I know It's hard for you
But you don't see the beauty that I see
Just let the stones fall from their slings
You know you can throw sharper things
Just let the pain fold away
You'll slip your chains sooner that way
And I will be the last one down
For I see more than just a noose
Allow me to show you what I mean
Just take my hand it's alright
I know you're weak from all you fight
Just let the fear of it all
Trouble you no more
The opening lines of the song, "It's just like you to cause a scene / It's just like me to tell tales," highlight the familiar pattern in a dysfunctional relationship, where one person is the troublemaker and the other is the storyteller. The singer acknowledges the weight of the situation but urges their partner to let go of the anger and unnecessary pain. The imagery of stones falling from their slings adds to the idea of letting go of things that hurt us and freeing ourselves from the chains that bind us.
As the song progresses, the singer encourages their partner to view their problems as a test that will never fail. In other words, they must learn from their experiences to become stronger and face any situation that comes their way. The singer believes that their partner is blind to their true beauty and potential, and they want to help them see it. The lines "And I will be the last one down / For I see more than just a noose" suggest that the singer will always be there for their partner, no matter how difficult things may get.
Overall, "Stones" is a song about hope and the power to overcome obstacles. The singer acknowledges the struggle that their partner may be facing, but they believe that they can make it through if they release their anger and trust in themselves. Through their lyrics, the band Addict offers a sense of comfort and support to anyone who may be struggling with similar issues in their relationships or personal life.
