Walk Around the World
Adrian Belew Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

1.When the sun falls from the sky
And the muse begins to fly
Then she will come to wrestle me
Just as I am about to sleep
When the moonlight in the fall
Make some movie on the wall
Then she will come to tears
She?s afraid of fall from reality

Ref: Walk around the world tonight
See these places ? they?re only in my mind
I see everything - beautiful things
I can do the garden in your hair
Visualize the city in the air
Where little faces in little squares
Talk to me
I am late
I am late

2.If a man can?t learn to bend
Like a reed does in the breeze
Then how will he ever comprehend
All of life?s sweet mysteries.

Ref: Walk around the world tonight?

Use your brain
Your perception

Use your imagination
Even reality is mostly in your mind

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Adrian Belew's song "Walk Around the World" contain subtle nuances and imagery that can be interpreted in different ways. The opening lines of the song, "When the sun falls from the sky, and the muse begins to fly" depict a sudden change in the environment that sparks creativity or inspiration. The muse that is being referred to here is the personification of creative inspiration that often comes in a dreamlike state or at the threshold of sleep. This is further emphasized when the songwriter says, "Just as I am about to sleep, when the moonlight in the fall, makes some movie on the wall, then she will come to tears, she's afraid of fall from reality."

The song speaks about how engaging the mind and the imagination can change one's perspective about the world around them. This is evident in the lines, "I see everything - beautiful things, I can do the garden in your hair, visualize the city in the air, where little faces in little squares, talk to me." The songwriter encourages the listener to use their perception, imagination, and creativity to discover the beauty that is all around them. The song also speaks about the importance of being adaptable and flexible in life, as seen in the lines, "If a man can’t learn to bend like a reed does in the breeze, then how will he ever comprehend, all of life’s sweet mysteries?"

Overall, the song is a celebration of the power of imagination and creativity in shaping our perception of the world around us. It reminds the listener that reality is largely subjective and that one's perspective is what ultimately shapes their experience of life.

... well, if you search for "walk around the world live", Youtube will return a full live from the 90... The video where he plays with the baseball cap. There you have Adrian playing and singing "W.A.T.W.", but he starts singing after a while... I personally saw him around 2008/2010, before the Power Trio, and, he played and sang a song, I didn't know about at the time, but I am 90 percent sure he was "Walk around the world"... I remember him asking us to wish him Luck, because of the hard level of difficulty...
