The band released their first album issued self-titled debut in autumn 1989, which included the hits, "Sayanora", "Heat of the Moment", "Can't Stop" and the quiet storm staple, "Ready or Not". After promoting the album and seeing it go to platinum, they scored a hit with the Motown-influenced "Nights Like This" on the 1991 soundtrack to The Five Heartbeats. The trio returned with 1992's Takin' My Time, which included the hit cover of The Originals' "Baby I'm For Real". The trio released their last album, with Reflections, in 1995, which included the hit, "'Til You Do Me Right". After Mitchell split from After 7 in 1997, the Edmonds brothers continued performing, releasing the cover of Hall & Oates' "Sara Smile" before silently disbanding that year.
The brothers continue to perform in venues for reunions. Both Kevon and Melvin Edmonds appear with Babyface in the film Soul Food, as members of the R&B group Milestone and performing the song "I Care About You". In 1999, Kevon Edmonds released a solo LP, which included the single "24/7." In 2006 they appeared on the New Jack Reunion Tour.

After 7 Lyrics

In a real bad way
So baby you could push me 'round
Push me down your way
I don't care anywhere's good down there
But baby in the back of your mind
You want to feel me sliding up your leg
Oh yeah
Take your time
Let's make sure the feeling's right
I wanna know what's up
Should we stop or should we.
[Chorus]
Save it up save it up
Save it up for me baby
Shooby-doop you my baby
Cause you know you're just
Drivin' me crazy
Save it up baby love
Don't hold back your lovin'
Shooby-doop you my baby
'cause you know you just
Drivin' me crazy
Sweet thing candy got ya'meltin'
In your flame
Cause baby you're safe and warm
Given into the game
Oh way down there
Deep in your ocean way
Send me down there girl
I'll find your pearl
At the end of the day
Ease your mind
Let's make sure the mood's alright
I wanna fill your cup
So what's up or should we.
[Chorus]
Baby what's your name
Come and let me see your love baby
I just wanna know your name
Baby what's your name
Come and show me your love
I just wanna give you game girl
I just want you baby yeah
[chorus]
The lyrics of After 7's "Save It Up" describe a sexual encounter between two individuals. The singer is offering himself to the woman in a "real bad way," indicating that he desires her intensely. He indicates that she can take control of the situation, stating "baby you could push me 'round, push me down your way." He professes that he doesn't care where they go, as long as they are together. The imagery of him sliding up her leg is used to heighten the sexual tension.
However, the singer also stresses the importance of taking things slow and ensuring that the mood is right. He wants to make sure that they are both fully comfortable before they proceed with any physical activity. The chorus repeats the titular phrase "save it up for me, baby" which may refer to the woman saving her love or physical affection for the singer.
The lyrics are straightforward and focus primarily on physical attraction and sexual desire. While they may not be particularly insightful, they do convey a clear message of mutual desire and consent.
