Witch Hunt
Agarwaen Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In the 14th century in little village lived a widow named Ofelia d'Arc
She was a herbalist, looking for a way to save her only child
But the locals believe that the lord is the only one who can cure
It's unnatural to intervene gods work, it's the devils work!
She has never done anything but given her utmost love for her child
If she wouldn't have used the medicine, her child would have died
But the towns people, they don't understand. It's heresy for them!
And therefore she shall face her consequences in the trials
They took her to the cathedral
Where she will get her last absolution
All are gathered to witness this charade
As if this was some sort of waited leisure
"It's time for you to repent your sins now if you wish to join the heavenly father"
"But what about my child?" "You'll meet him again soon enough! Hahahahaha!!"
"We are here to sentence you for the witchcraft
I am high priest I am the highest law in here
You are accused for witchcraft and heresy
How do you plead you wretched witch?
Therefore I judge you to burn in the stake
We shall cleanse her soul with fire and fate
She shall be reborn as a child of Jesus
BE GONE YOU SATAN FROM THIS CHILD!!"
As the fires turns a flame you can hear her screams of pain
The towns people, they laugh, they think that this is fun
In a sudden, her child runs into the flames to her mother
She curses the whole village, death will come to everyone of you
A few years later black death came to the village
Everyone died in a slow and painful way

Nothing was left behind in this godforsaken town
There won't be no afterlife for these hypocrites whores

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Agarwaen's song Witch Hunt tell the story of a widow named Ofelia d'Arc who lived in a small village during the 14th century. Ofelia was a herbalist who was searching for a remedy to save her only child, but the local people believed that it was only the lord who could heal and that it was against the natural order to intervene with the gods' work. Despite her efforts to save her child's life, Ofelia was accused of witchcraft and heresy and was taken to the cathedral where she would receive her last absolution. The people who had accused her gathered to witness her execution and laughed as the flames burned her alive. Her curse on the villagers came true when the black death wiped out every inhabitant of the village a few years later.
