Air Review is a Dallas quintet. They played their first show in May of 2009. Their dynamic, versatile, and energetic live shows have landed them primary support slots for an eclectic group of acts including Portugal. The Man, The Boxer Rebellion, and One Eskimo. Air Review has a knack for engaging melodies that has turned heads around the world and secured licensing opportunities with the International Olympic Committee and Levi's.
Their forthcoming EP, America's Son, promises to further establish Air Review as a sonically diverse and ambitious act that stands to break out in a major way in 2012, simply by staying the course it has already set. The title track, America's Son, Low Wishes, and Waiting Lessons have received international acclaim from the blogosphere including features on CMJ, The Huffington Post, Said the Gramophone, Indie Rock Cafe, Pretty Much Amazing, We All Want Someone to Shout For, The Music Ninja, 32ft/second, The Ruckus, Those Who Dig, Indie Music Filter, Speakers in Code and numerous more.
INDIE ROCK CAFE - 2011 BEST NEW RELEASES
Earlier this year, we featured an advance single from the Dallas band Air Review, and the track received a good response. The band’s music is masterfully composed, performed and produced indie folk pop, as clearly demonstrated on the splendid track, “America’s Son.” In fact, it’s one of our favorite Rarely Heard Songs of 2011 (that series will also be coming out soon; browse past posts). We included both tracks the band sent us from their LP, America’s Son, which was officially released on Nov. 1st.
Without hesitation, Air Review are a band to watch in 2012. Having previously opened for bands like Bowling for Soup, Blue October, Boxer Rebellion and One Eskimo, and after making a name for themselves in the Dallas-Forth Worth area, it’s beyond us to explain why they haven’t received a record deal yet. Perhaps they have, and they turned it down, but when we listened to these tracks for the first time, and the whole album afterwards, it simply did not make sense that a label wouldn’t have signed Air Review by now.
Air Review is just another example of what we always say – there are ten times as many fantastically talented and incredibly promising bands, that are DIY and flying under the radar, than there are popular ‘indie’ and alternative rock bands that are drooled over in some mainstream ‘indie’ blogs and music sites. The second single, “Low Wishes” is unmistakably upbeat, uplifting indie pop song, complete with magnificent choruses – the kind of song that you might want to play if you need a quick shot of inspiration. If we were a label, we’d probably sign this band. In 2009, the band released their debut album, Landmarks.

I's standin' on the corner with my head hung down
Hey, the train carried my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
That's kinda the way she sounded when she's rollin' away from the depot...
If I had a gun I'd let the hammer down
Lord, I'd shoot that rounder took my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
There goes the train that carried my girl from town
If I knowed her number, Lord, I'd flag her down
Hey, the train carried my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Rations on the table and the coffee's gettin' cold
And some dirty rounder stole my jelly roll
Hey, the train carried my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Hello, Central, give me six-o-nine
I want to talk to that woman of mine
Hey, that train that carried my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
I wish to the Lord that the train would wreck
Kill that engineer and break the fireman's neck
Hey, that train done carried my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
Rollin' on down the line...
Ashes to ashes and dust to dust
Show me the woman that a man can trust
Hey, that train that carried my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
There goes my girl, somebody bring her back
'Cause she's got her hand in my money sack
Hey, that train carried my girl from town
Hey, hey, hey, hey
The lyrics to Air Review’s song “Young” tell a story of heartache and loss. The singer is lamenting the departure of his significant other on a train out of town. He stands on the corner with his head hung low, listening as the train carrying his girl rolls away from the depot. He expresses his longing for her return and resentment towards the person who took her away. The lyrics progress to discussing his frustration with the situation and his desire for revenge, wishing for the train to wreck and for harm to come to the people responsible for taking his girl. He ultimately ends with a plea for honesty and trust in relationships, hoping to find a woman who won't steal from him.
The imagery in the lyrics is potent and evocative. The train serves as a metaphor for the departure of the singer's lover, symbolizing both the physical and emotional distance between them. The lyrics about wanting to shoot the rounder who took his girl from town emphasize the singer's sense of betrayal and deep sadness. The final verse, with its references to death and money, suggests that the singer may be experiencing a loss that goes beyond a romantic relationship; he may be losing his faith in human decency altogether.
Overall, Air Review's "Young" is a poignant and relatable song that captures the heartache of a failed relationship. Its lyrics paint a vivid picture of a man struggling to come to terms with the loss of someone he loves, and the raw emotion of the song makes it a moving and powerful piece of music.

If this is all there is,
Don't wake me for the fight.
I'd rather be alone,
Asleep, not worry for a break tonight
Don't be a ghost
Don't worry for the lights
The canopy of lies that keeps you from me
When we were young
We could always dare to dream
That the places we have seen
We're enough to make us who we are.
But now we are hooked,
On the questions in between
That marry you and me, to a song that we can't sing.
Ohh ohh ohh ohh woah ohh ohh
Oh, to know where secrets go
We could start a fire and watch it grow
We could bury our shoes and wait for rain
Till the summer takes us home

It’s been 5 years, wow. I remember all the times I listened to this song. When my grandmother passes in September of 201 and when I moved to this new house during the same time, When I first went to my high school, when I finally found the love of my life who I have been with for 2 years. I’m a senior in high school now, and I know I’m still young, hell i’m 17, but this songs brings me back even to before it was released. I remember my childhood friends and the area I lived in, living with my grandma and grandpa and going out to the woods to explore. The song is ending now, I have to go. Have a good life, everyone.
