Valerie
Aitana Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well sometimes I go out by myself
And I look across the water
And I think of all the things, what you're doing
And in my head I paint a picture

'Cause since I've come on home
Well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over
Stop making a fool out of me

Why don't you come on over, Valerie?
Valerie
Valerie
Valerie

Did you have to go to jail?
Put your house on up for sale? Did you get a good lawyer?
I hope you didn't catch a tan
I hope you find the right man who'll fix it for ya
Are you shopping anywhere?
Changed the color of your hair? Are you busy?
And did you have to pay that fine
That you were dodging all the time? Are you still dizzy?

Since I've come on home
Well my body's been a mess
And I've missed your ginger hair
And the way you like to dress
Won't you come on over
Stop making a fool out of me

Why don't you come on over, Valerie?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Aitana's song "Valerie" tell a story of longing and reminiscing about a past love. The singer describes how sometimes she goes out alone and gazes across the water, thinking about what her ex-lover might be doing. She creates a mental image of their presence in her head, suggesting that they still linger in her thoughts and imagination.

The singer reveals that since returning home, her body has been in disarray, indicating that being away from her former partner has left her feeling unsettled and incomplete. She specifically mentions missing their ginger hair and the way they dressed, highlighting the unique qualities that made them special and attractive to her. The plea for them to come back is a desperate attempt to end the torment of feeling like a fool for still longing for their presence.

In the following lines, the singer asks rhetorical questions about the ex-lover's experiences since their separation. She wonders if they had to go to jail or sell their house, indicating a potential downfall or instability in their life. She hopes that they haven't caught a tan, implying that they have been living a carefree life without any consequences. The mention of finding the right man who will "fix it" for them suggests that the singer may have been hurt in the relationship and hopes that their ex-lover will find someone who can heal their troubles.

The singer asks if the ex-lover has changed their appearance or is busy in their life, implying that they have moved on and possibly forgotten about their time together. The mention of paying fines that were continuously avoided suggests a history of trouble or irresponsibility. The questioning ends with an inquiry about their state of mind, questioning if they are still feeling disoriented or "dizzy" from their actions.

Overall, the lyrics of "Valerie" express the singer's yearning for their lost love and their desire for them to return and stop making her feel like a fool. It also touches on the singer's curiosity about the ex-lover's life after the breakup, highlighting the lingering emotions and unanswered questions that often accompany the end of a relationship.

Ella ha triunfado por sus propias actuaciones como love on the brain o shake it out.
