Spanish Eyes
Al DiMeola Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Teardrops are falling from your Spanish eyes
Please, please don't cry
This is just adios and not goodbye
Soon I'll return
Bringing you all the love your heart can hold
Please say "Si, si"
Blue Spanish eyes
Prettiest eyes in all of Mexico
True Spanish eyes
Please smile at me once more before I go
Soon I'll return
Bringing you all the love your heart can hold
Please say "Si, si"
Say you and your Spanish eyes will wait for me
Say you and your Spanish eyes will wait for me
The song "Spanish Eyes" by Al Di Meola is a plea for his lover's eyes to stop crying. He assures her that he will return and bring her all the love her heart can hold. The song employs a lot of imagery with the mention of "Blue Spanish eyes" and "True Spanish eyes" which highlights the beauty of his lover's eyes. This specific imagery is used to reinforce the appeal to love that he is putting forward to hold her back from bursting into tears.
He asks her to say "Si, si" to indicate that she will wait for his return. "Si, si" means "yes, yes" in Spanish, and this phrase reinforces the theme of the song; that the singer will return and he wants his lover to wait for him. There is a sense of longing in the song, and the repetition of the phrase "Please say 'Si, si'" highlights how much it means to him for his lover to wait for him.
Overall, the song conveys a deep sense of longing and love. It speaks to relationships and how one can make a promise to come back and return to them. The song carries a sense of hope; that even though the singer is parting with his love, there's the promise of a happy reunion waiting.
