Specifically, this term is used when referring to popular music; some musical genres make little use of the human voice, such as jazz, electronic music, and large amounts of European classical music (although in electronic music the voice can be sampled just like anything else). In commercial music, some tracks or songs on a compact disc include instrumental tracks. These tracks are often exact copies of the corresponding song, but do not have vocals.
Instrumental tracks that have reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 include
"Theme from A Summer Place" - Percy Faith (1960)
"Telstar" - Tornados (1962)
"L'Amour Est Bleu (Love Is Blue)" - Paul Mauriat (1968)
"Grazing in the Grass" - Hugh Masekela (1968)
"Frankenstein" - Edgar Winter Group (1973)
"Love's Theme" - Love Unlimited Orchestra (1974)
"The Hustle" - Van McCoy (1975)

"Rise" - Herb Alpert (1979)
"Chariots of Fire" - Vangelis (1982)

This song is a testament to how powerful music can be. With no lyrics, a simple but unforgettable riff, it reaches in and can stir a range of emotions in people from all walks of life.

I agree, I feel the same way about an older piece of music Peter Gabriel put out. The music soundtrack to the last temptation of Christ is amazing.

I’m 52 days sober off heroin, fentanyl, benzos, coke, meth, and pretty much every other drug there is. This was the first song I played walking out that treatment center and I felt so much better and badass. Getting out of that building and driving back home to a new and better life with this playing felt so amazing ~
