How Can You Mend a Broken Heart
Al Green Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can think of younger days when living for my life
Was everything a man could want to do
I could never see tomorrow
I was never told about the sorrow

And how can you mend a broken heart?
How can you stop the rain from falling down?
Tell me, how can you stop the sun from shining?
What makes the world go 'round?

How can you mend a this broken man? Yeah
How can a loser ever win?
Somebody please help me mend my broken heart
And let me live again, la-la, la-la, la

I can still feel the breeze that rustles through the trees
And misty memories of days gone by
But we could never see tomorrow
Would you believe that no one, no one ever told us about the sorrow?

So how can you mend a broken heart? And mine is
How can you stop the rain from falling down? Baby
How can you stop that old sun from shining?
What makes the world go 'round? And sometime I have to say, yeah, say

La-la-la, la-la-la, uh-huh, yeah
La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la, tell me
Help me mend my, my broken heart
I just wanna, I just wanna, I just wanna, I just wanna
I just wanna live again, baby
How can you mend this broken man? Yeah, somebody tell me
How can a loser ever win? 'Cause, baby
Help me mend my, this old broken heart
I think I, I believe I

I feel like I got to, I feel like I wanna live again

How can you mend, ah, this broken heart? Somebody please tell me
How can you stop the rain from falling down? I know my clothes are all wet, tell me
How can you mend my, please help me mend my broken heart
I think I, I believe I, I've got a feeling that I want to live and live and live

La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
La-la-la
La

I was 13 years old when i fell in love with Al Greens music. I'm 68 now and lived a lot of life. Still listening to my old friend Al Green January 2025 .

@marmalade0223

I'm 62 and have lived a lot of life listening to this man. in 1973 my mother was working for a man that had a mini-storage empire in Monroe Louisiana, lol, that's what he called it. they had a huge warehouse behind the office for some reason and that's where the belongings of people that didn't pay their storage bill would go. can we just say I was a nosy, kind of bad, kid..... I would sneak back there and look around. this little bad white (creole dad) girl that doesn't fit in anywhere. I found a box of records and sneaked them home. al green, Roberta flack, heatwave, my girl Gladys... mm mmm mm. so many more. people around me were listening to Lynard skynard, led zeppelin, ozzy osborn, etc. I was like, "wait a minute, what is this???". changed my life. I've sang in full gospel choirs all my life, to the chagrin of my mother, who wanted us to blend. ok maybe heatwave wasn't in there yet lol.... but you get the picture. what a world we lived in. not sure why, but as I get older, I want to hear the old stuff.

The white man like manyothers past and present probably lied, conned, killed and stole to get that property. He was like other racists, hiding or to his own thinking, he was getting rid of in his possession, some of our black cultural and history of black music. He was just another racist white racist like those past and present, who's another white racist immigrant originally from racist England, claming to be an American, and a US Patriot, who probably goes to church on Suns.says his prayers and in between those days go back to being nothing but a race hater and sometimes a killer and a justified murderer only in racist America, who still thinks he going to heaven after all is said and done when he's dead and gone, burning in hell for his crimes and white bias justice can't save or protect his evil racist a!!, like it won't liar 🤥 thief, criminal, sexual predator etc, racist trump, who's again becoming for non-white and poor white too, our worse enemy and pathetic president against us kinds of who's poor, but still humanbeings and people too, he hes a evil racist orange human who's probably the 1,2,or 3 ugliest white man in the world . @@marmalade0223
