This record, released in 1958, was the first recording of Hovhaness' piece, and Reiner's interpretation is still the best of them all.

This piece has such a rich sound, every inch of the room is soaked in its warm tones. Listening to this at 3:00 in the morning is an experience that I never want to forget; I feel surrounded by the sound. <3

I'm sure there are many other beautiful mountainous locations, but my favorite for listening to this is driving in Kaneohe, Oahu, Hi. along highways Rt. 63 and H3. 💚

I have heard so many versions of this piece, but this 1958 performance still stands as the recording by which all others are measured. It's hard for me to listen to any other interpretations without thinking, "Reiner did it differently."

With Bud Herseth's soaring trumpet solos!

Almost any single Reiner´s recording is a HIT. You can't beat his work with the RCA, nothing on earth can.

My thoughts exactly. I have an old vinyl LP record of Reiner's version. Now worn out. The 1958 sound engineering isn't great, but Reiner's interpretation is matchless. All other versions seem amateurish in comparison.

I can't believe this is the first hit YT gave me, it's my original long-lost LP from years ago. Alan was/is still amazing.

Fritz good. Yes. And this piece makes me CRY. It is THAT good.

That legendary Chicago brass section. I'll never forget my time as a horn student there.
