Losing Touch
Albert Hammond Jr. Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Use to run a mile but not gain an inch
Making dreams real by killing some trees
It′s not goodbye, I'm just losing touch.
What you can wisdom, I call pain
Stepped out of line, well I missed my train
In time you′ll say, I'm just losing touch.
Oh I'm just losing touch, oh
I′m just losing touch.
Happy here? The rest′s a wreck!
Strangers come, the night begins
Silence weighs a thousand tons
Her youth describes, you're lost in it.
Carved your confusion into my arm
Left with a confusion and a bill for the scars
It′s not a goodbye, I'm just losing touch.
You can′t control the ocean, you can't control the tide
Maybe maybe maybe put your ego aside
It′s like I said I'm just losing touch,
Oh I'm just losing touch, Oh
I′m just losing touch, Oh
I′m just losing touch.
Happy here? The rest's a wreck!
Strangers come, the night begin
Silence weighs a thousand tons
Her youth describes, you′re lost in it.
Happy here? The rest's a wreck!
Strangers come, the night begins

Silence weighs a thousand tons
Her youth describes, you′re lost in it.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Albert Hammond Jr.'s "Losing Touch" are a commentary on the loneliness and disconnection that come with fame and fortune. The first verse speaks to the pressure to succeed, to "make dreams real" even if it means sacrificing nature ("killing some trees"). The second verse alludes to the difficulty of staying true to oneself in the face of criticism and rejection ("what you can wisdom, I call pain"). The chorus repeats the phrase "I'm just losing touch," which can be interpreted in different ways: as a plea for understanding ("it's not goodbye"), a confession of inadequacy or failure, or an acceptance of one's limitations.

The bridge of the song introduces a more optimistic note: "you can't control the ocean, you can't control the tide / maybe put your ego aside." This implies that the key to reconnecting with oneself and with others is to let go of the need for control and recognition, and to embrace vulnerability and humility. The final repetition of the chorus reinforces the sense of isolation and confusion, but also suggests that this state of mind is temporary and subjective, and that there is hope for reconnection and growth.

Overall, "Losing Touch" is a melancholy and introspective song that reflects the personal struggles and insights of the artist. It combines poetic imagery, catchy melodies, and raw emotion to create a memorable and relatable experience for listeners.

i was going through a really hard time a few years ago around the time this album was released, I had a job I hated and was drinking too much, I eventually got fired and wasn't sure what I was doing with my life or myself, my friend sent me the song set to attack, we've always been huge strokes fans, the chorus just really helped me and I felt like Albert was talking to me, now things are better although I'm not still 100 per cent sure of myself but things have gotten better, I have to thank Albert's music and my friend for being there, I wanna throw my friend some extra love as he's just released his second track, he's a music producer and heavily influenced by Albert's guitar playing, try searching Lonely Gimmick - Pessimistic Weather ,you may be in for a surprise and he would love to hear your opinion, HOLD ON EVERYONE
