Last days of disco
Alcazar Lyrics

Those were the last days of having fun
From New York City all the way to Frisco
We thought it'd only just begun
When did all of the hatred begin
They burned all of our records
While we were all making love
All we wanted was to have a good
The night to last forever
Now tell was that a crime
Tell me which is the greatest sin
Those were the last days of disco
Those were the last days of having fun
From New York City all the way to Frisco
We thought it'd only just begun
All the heartaches we danced them away
We forgot all of our troubles
Nights of no work and all play
Then slowly it all fell apart
Too much fun can drive a person insane
All the things you took they
Finally blew out your brain
That's when all of the troubles began
We were dancing our lives away
Those were the last days of disco
Those were the last days of having fun
From New York City all the way to Frisco
We thought it'd only just begun
Those were the last days of disco
We thought it'd never go away
From New York City all the way to Frisco
Miami Beach straight to L.A.
No doubt about it, it's so hard to get along without it
No doubt about it, it's so hard to get along without it
Without it, without it, without it
Those were the last days of disco
Those were the last days of having fun
From New York City all the way to Frisco
We thought it'd only just begun
Those were the last days of disco
We thought it'd never go away
From New York City all the way to Frisco
Miami Beach straight to L.A.
Alcazar's "Last Days of Disco" is a nostalgic reflection of the explosive late 70s disco era. The lyrics suggest a mournful interpretation of what was believed to be the "last days of having fun" in that era. Alcazar acknowledges the euphoria that disco brought everyone, as they "danced" heartaches "away," and "forgot all of [their] troubles." There's a sense of regret that's implied in the lyrics as they talk about how "slowly it all fell apart," and how "too much fun can drive a person insane." They question why they were vilified and their records were burned while they were making love, suggesting that they were genuinely innocent, wanting nothing but to enjoy life.
Moreover, the song paints a picture of the drastic change that occurred within the disco scene, where all the fun and happy moments were replaced with hatred, fights, and brain blowouts. The singers question whether it was truly a crime to enjoy their lives and have a good time, creating an oxymoronic effect that is both critical and thought-provoking. The repetition of the statement, "Those were the last days of disco," sums up the theme contained in the lyrics, subtly lamenting the end of an era.

Thanks for the lovely music and great songs. I have only just discovered this group and it's really blown me away into a dance mood for sure. Will become a firm favourite for a long time to come.

Thank so so much. DISCOSTALGIA You have perfectly caught our feeling in fall 79 "we thought it'd just begun whereas the mainstream ra-idiots were banning it"
