The Phoenix, Arizona native caught the attention of Jon Bellion, earning a songwriting credit on Bellion’s debut album and later joined him on tour.

To build on the momentum, Benjamin began uploading new songs to his YouTube channel at a rapid clip and eventually earned a viral hit with “I Built a Friend” and a deal with Atlantic Records.

Benjamin connects to listeners by incorporating using his life struggles to tell stories and give meaning to his songs. You can see this in “Let Me Down Slowly,” “Paper Crown,” “I Built a Friend,” “Death of a Hero,” and “If We Have Each Other.”

This actually describes my own depression, I do care about my friends and my family but the problem is that I'm not good enough, especially if I'm at school. My inner demons are definitely speaking about me, I can feel people negativity and positive energy or how they are feeling, I just feel that I'm not good enough, I'm trying my hardest right now, I just can't deal with it anymore..
There is nothing else to do, I have nothing, I lost all my confidence, most of my friends, I lost my personality..
I have a learning disorder, I get anxiety and now I'm dealing with my depression...
Alec Benjamin, u did an amazing job on this song, I am starting to learn the lyrics, I love this song so damn much. I hope I can make it through my depression. I just feel I'm not worth living right now and other peoples life matters so much more than mine. Alec Benjamin you are an amazing person who makes songs, I know u try you hardest, your the best !
