hill i will die on
Alec Benjamin Lyrics

Some have fought battles in fields full of cattle
And some have waged war out at sea
Some in militias and some with malicious intent
Some men just want to be
Free from oppression and so their aggression
Is worn like a badge on their sleeve
Some have fought battles from desks in Seattle
And some have waged war on the street

Guess this is the hill I will die on
I woke up this morning, put my suit and tie on
Walked down to the bus that I ride on
The air felt so still, I guess this is the hill
I guess this is the will I will write on
The back of this bill, with my pen as my quill
And I hope you'll still love me when I'm gone
The air felt so still, I guess this is the hill I will

Mm-na
Mm-na-na-na
Mm-hm-na
Mm-na-na-na

Some fight with rifles and some use the Bible
And some use a shield and a knife
Some author libel which sometimes goes viral
And ruins an innocent life
Leaves an impression, teaches no lesson
And leads to regression and strife
Some fight to stifle and some 'cause it's primal
And some 'cause they're sure that they're right

Guess this is the hill I will die on
I woke up this morning, put my suit and tie on
Walked down to the bus that I ride on
The air felt so still, I guess this is the hill
I guess this is the will I will write on
The back of this bill, with my pen as my quill
And I hope you'll still love me when I'm gone
The air felt so still, I guess this is the hill I will die on

Overall Meaning

The song "The Hill I Will Die On" by Alec Benjamin talks about the struggles that people go through all over the world. The song discusses how people fight for what they believe in; some people fight for their freedom, while others fight for their beliefs or because of malicious intentions. He illustrates different scenes of battlefields, sea wars, and defenseless fights, indicating that different people fight differently.

The chorus "Guess this is the hill I will die on" suggests that the fight is worth dying for as it is essential to who they are as a person. It shows that the fight is meaningful to them and that they are willing to stand up for it until the very end. The lyrics also symbolize that the battle is not physical as it is exemplified by putting on a suit and tie.

The last part of the song "I guess this is the will I will write on, the back of this bill, with my pen as my quill" suggests that he is going to leave behind his legacy through his writings or perhaps his beliefs. The song conveys a message, showing that a fight that is worth fighting for is worth dying for.

Isn't leaving an impression on someone teaching them something, it's a great song but the logic in this in my own opinion is flawed.

I realise that leaving an impression on someone could be a bad thing, but doesn't impression mean changing it, therefore teaching it. I'm waffleing on.

Edit:

I realise now that the

"Leave an impression" meaning doing something bad too someone or something and leaving a mark.

"Teaches no lesson" means said thing hasn't tought anyone and has only caused hurt.

"And leaves to regression and strife"
Strife meaning, angry or bitter.
Regression meaning, going backwards.

"I guess this is the will I will write on"

In my will I'll have one request...

To have my dead dog dug back up and buried with me near my uncle's grave....

I want him to have a permanent grave that wouldn't be messed with because of something in the future.

Also in the will I'd put that all of my art gets donated to some local/nearby art gallery that is trusted...
