The songs for her album, 'The Pirate’s Gospel', were written on a trip to Europe. A new song, "Dry Grass and Shadows", was issued on a compilation of Nevada City artists, and five more new songs were issued on a limited-edition 10" vinyl pressing, Songs Whistled Through White Teeth, released in the UK in October 2006. The Pirate's Gospel was released in the UK on Names Records in April 2007, garnering favorable reviews in The Times and NME.

About Farewell
Alela Diane Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And i know that your dear heart is telling you
To run deep down somewhere
Deep down somewhere
I heard somebody say
That the brightest lights
Cast the biggest shadows
Seven years to you dear heart is all that i can give
And i know that without me
You'll find just what you need,
Deep down somewhere,
Deep down somewhere
I heard somebody say
That the brightest lights
Cast the biggest shadows
So honey i got to let you go
Living is the hardest part
That's what we've always said
Once upon the other side
Is best not to look back
That's what we say about farewell
The lyrics to Alela Diane's song, About Farewell, describe someone who is leaving a relationship, but recognizes that their partner's heart is telling them to stay. The singer acknowledges the difficulty of this decision, but ultimately decides to let their partner go, as they believe that their partner will find what they need, deep down somewhere. The lyrics are poignant and bittersweet, as the singer is recognizing the end of a romance, while also expressing hope that their partner will find happiness.
One interesting aspect of the lyrics is the repetition of the phrase "deep down somewhere." This could suggest that the singer believes that their partner has untapped potential or hidden desires that they need to explore on their own. Alternatively, it could be interpreted as the singer acknowledging that even though they are leaving, there is still a deep connection between them and their partner that may never go away.
Another interesting aspect of the song is the line, "the brightest lights cast the biggest shadows." This metaphor highlights the idea that success or fame often come with a heavy burden, such as public scrutiny or the pressure to maintain a certain image. The singer may be suggesting that while they care for their partner, they do not want to hold them back from their potential, or from the potential challenges that may come with success.
Overall, About Farewell is a beautiful and emotional song that captures the complexity of letting go of a relationship. It shows that even though endings can be painful, they can also be a necessary step towards growth and self-discovery.
