Paloma
Alela Diane Lyrics

Jump to: Line by Line Meaning ↴

I woke up at the darkest hour
Every light upon the shoreline was out
I gazed out into the deep blue
As the thunderous waves roared

Ooh
And in the black of night
I wouldn't be taken aback
If the water came up and swept us out to sea

Ooh
And in the black of night
I wouldn't be taken aback
If the sun gave up and never brought the day
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Ooh-ooh-ooh

The heavy rain poured down
The sky electric with the boom and rumble
And, in nerves I counted silently
Between the sight and the sound

Ooh
And in the black of night
I wouldn't be taken aback
If the water came up and swept us out to sea

Ooh
And in the black of night
I wouldn't be taken aback
If the sun gave up and never brought the day
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Ooh-ooh-ooh

And in the dimmest light of morning
I found a mourning dove
Paloma rode the wind to where she lay
Silent as a stone

Ooh
And in the black of night
I wouldn't be taken aback
If the water came up and swept us out to sea

Ooh
And in the black of night
I wouldn't be taken aback

If the sun gave up and never brought the day
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh-ooh-ooh, Ooh-ooh-ooh

Beautiful song and beautiful video. I like the bittersweet tone of this clip.
To me, it shows how malleable we have to be as mothers and fathers. Raising kids is often about putting aside things you need or desire at the moment and making room for your children and for the connection they are longing for, here and now. It will not always be that way, they will grow and long for connections outside family, outside you. It's an investment to let these kind of moments happen and they are so brief and precious, like childhood itself. Thank you Alela ! Love frome France

Alela this video makes me weep because I remember your emigre video with your precious baby and that video moves me so much. As a mother myself and watching your girls do your makeup like my son does mine, just so lovely that you have these memories. Of course I absolutely love your music and the stories behind your songs. Be well and thank you♡

Goddess Tara

This also reminds me to stop saying no to doing my makeup so often. To stop and enjoy the moment. I needed this reminder. Thank you, again
