I never knew what it was gonna take
Made some monumental mistakes
And saw the blue skies wash away
I was so lost, save me at all costs
When I need you baby, when I need you
When the lights off, I feel the rain fall
[Chorus]
Colour- la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
It lived inside of my heart
You bought it back with your love
Colour- la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
When it was all black and white
You made everything right
You make it right right right right
I forgot who I was supposed to be
Reminded me of a hope again, you made me dream
Red, orange, yellow, blue, indigo, violet, green
You're the start and the end of my rainbow
I was so lost, save me at all costs
When I need you baby, when I need you
When the lights off, I feel the rain fall
That's when I see you, that's when I see you
[Chorus]
If the rain falls hard, I know where you are
I know where you are if the rain falls
If the rain falls hard, I know where you are
I know where you are if the rain falls
[Chorus]
In Alesha Dixon's song Colour, she sings about feeling lost and alone until she finds someone who brings color back into her life. The opening lines, "Thought that's how the world would be for me, I never knew what it was gonna take," suggest that she had some preconceived notions about how her life would turn out, but quickly realized that things weren't going to be as easy as she had imagined. She admits to making mistakes and seeing "the blue skies wash away," which could be a metaphor for her happiness slipping away.
The second verse is where the song takes a more positive turn, as Dixon credits her partner with helping her rediscover her sense of self ("I forgot who I was supposed to be/ Reminded me of a hope again, you made me dream") and adding vibrancy and joy to her life. The colors of the rainbow that she lists in the following line - "Red, orange, yellow, blue, indigo, violet, green" - represent the multitude of emotions and experiences that she enjoys with her partner.
The chorus, which repeats the word "Color" several times, is a celebration of the transformative power of love. Dixon sings about how her partner "brought color back into her heart" and "made everything right." The bridge, which repeats the line "If the rain falls hard, I know where you are," suggests that even during the difficult times, Dixon can count on her partner to be there for her.
Overall, "Color" is an uplifting and hopeful song that speaks to the transformative power of love and how it can brighten even the darkest of days.
