I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor
Alex Turner Lyrics

And what it is that surprises me is that I don't really want you to
And your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
The lights and the fuse might result in a bang, with a bang-go
I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know what you're looking for
I said I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984
I wish you'd stop ignoring me because you're sending me to despair
Without a sound, yeah, you're calling me, and I don't think it's very fair
That your shoulders are frozen (cold as the night)
Oh, but you're an explosion (you're dynamite)
Your name isn't Rio, but I don't care for sand
The lights and the fuse might result in a bang, with a bang-go
I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984
Oh, there ain't no love, no
No Montagues or Capulets
Just banging tunes in DJ sets and
Dirty dancefloors
And dreams of naughtiness
Well, I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
I don't know if you're looking for romance or
I don't know what you're looking for
I said I bet that you look good on the dancefloor
Dancing to electro-pop like a robot from 1984
From 1984
The song "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" by Alex Turner is an energetic and playful conversation between two individuals at a club. The opening lyric, "Stop making the eyes at me, I'll stop making the eyes at you," suggests some degree of flirtation, but the second line, "And what it is that surprises me is that I don't really want you to," implies a playfulness and teasing quality to their interaction. The reference to frozen shoulders and an explosive personality add to the mystery of the person they are conversing with, while the reference to "Rio" and "sand" suggests that the person in question may not be who they appear to be.
The chorus of the song, "I bet that you look good on the dancefloor," is a playful acknowledgement of the allure of this person, but it is also an acknowledgement of the distance between the two of them. The repetition of the line "I don't know if you're looking for romance" and "I don't know what you're looking for" reveals a sense of uncertainty and a lack of knowledge about who this person is and what they want. The reference to dancing like a robot from 1984 adds to the sense of disconnect and detachment.

@Kate C Really? Wow. This is such a good song. It never occurred to me, that you could hate your own music. Is this the song where he said "When we wrote this song it meant very little to us and tonight, it means even less."
@katec8727
It's Alex Sis! Lol, yes it was! Alex is super hard on himself. I wonder how he felt about that being the song that he was told to play at the London 2012 opener
