Her music is ample evidence, but meet Alexa in person and the star quality is undeniable. You’ll meet a girl from a small town in the suburbs of southern England who still has to pinch herself when she finds herself rubbing shoulders with music royalty at LA parties, but you’ll also immediately realise what it is about this extraordinary young talent that earned her the attention and respect of some of pop’s biggest starmakers. Alexa is an artist who has found her strength through music, and can’t wait to tell the world her story.
Recorded in LA and New York, Goddard’s debut album showcases qualities that mirror her personality: smart, fun, sparky and refreshingly straightforward, featuring collaborations with bluechip producers like Stargate (Rihanna, Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Shakira), Ester Dean (Katy Perry, Christina Aguilera, Mary J Blige) and even Chris Brown. Hits-in-the-making include hook-heavy belter ‘So There’, lyrically reflective ‘Who Needs Perfect’ and female pop anthem ‘Stay Pretty’. Now it’s time for the rest of the planet to meet this exciting new star.
Growing up with three older brothers, a young Alexa quickly found a way to make her voice heard. She absorbed her family’s passion for a diverse range of musical styles, and discovered that she felt perfectly at home on stage in local talent shows and karaoke contests. “When I got on stage and performed, it was the best feeling in the world. I felt like I could do anything’,” Alexa recalls. After winning a talent contest at a seaside holiday camp, it led to recording sessions across Europe; later, her MySpace profile caught the eye of multi-million-selling prog rock behemoths Trans-Siberian Orchestra, who invited her to audition for a forthcoming tour. Over the next couple of years, she played to huge crowds up and down America’s East Coast, but after a while knew she had to concentrate on her own music.
Going right back to basics she persuaded one of her brother’s friends, a fledgling music manager, to arrange some recording sessions with producers so she could work on her own songwriting. Alongside these writing sessions they uploaded some videos to YouTube and immediately the views went supernova with subscribers going through the roof and one of her covers even hitting the Top 20 on the official UK charts after she released her version independently.
No wonder there’s a twinkle in her eye as she edges closer to realising her dream. Alexa’s loving every minute as she prepares to take the world by storm in 2014 “It’s taken a while for me to get here. I haven’t rushed anything. But believe me, I’m ready now.”

Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Hey, I'm getting money, I hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on
Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Yeah, I'm getting money, oh
They told me round my hood
What they say?
Yeah I'm getting money
If you be hating just be mad at yourself
I bet you think this song is about you
Don't you, but I did it without you
Said this is for them kids Scooby handling their business
Got m ups to them haters cause we're too busy winning
You can't tell us nothing, you can't tell me nothing
If you ain't getting money then you ain't got nothing on me
Cause I'll be getting paper like you wouldn't believe
And always getting haters like you wouldn't believe
So whassup? Boy stop
Swag aint something
You can wear on your neck
you can buy you a chain but you can't buy respect
I'ma rock it like I talk it so you'll never forget
And if you get your swag on let me hear you say
You wake up in the morning and you turn your swag on
Let me hear you say, oh, let me hear you say
I hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on
Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Hey, I'm getting money, I hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on
Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Yeah, I'm getting money, oh
I hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on
Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Hey, I'm getting money, I hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on
Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Yeah, I'm getting money, oh
I hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on
Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Hey, I'm getting money, I hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on
Tell the look in the mirror, say wassup, wassup?
Yeah, I'm getting money, oh
I turn my swag on, I turn my swag on,
I turn my swag on, I'm getting money
I turn my swag on, I turn my swag on,
I turn my swag on, I'm getting money
The lyrics to Alexa Goddard's "Turn My Swag On" are all about attitude, style, and confidence. The opening lines "Hopped up out the bed, turn my swag on" immediately set the tone for the whole song, indicating that the singer is someone who commands attention and exudes energy. As the song progresses, we learn that the singer is someone who is getting money and has a strong sense of self-worth. They are not afraid to speak their mind, and they are unapologetic about their success. The refrain "I'm getting money, oh" is a simple but effective way of emphasizing the singer's financial success and confidence.
The second verse takes on a slightly more confrontational tone, with the singer urging any haters to "be mad at yourself" and telling them that the song is not about them. They are confident in their own abilities and are not looking for validation or approval from anyone else. The line "Swag ain't something you can wear on your neck" is a clever way of asserting that real style and attitude come from within, rather than being something that can be purchased or put on like a piece of clothing.
Overall, "Turn My Swag On" is a catchy and upbeat song that celebrates individuality and confidence. It encourages listeners to embrace their own style and attitude, and to be proud of their successes and accomplishments.
