1984–2006 : Early life and education
Ali Sethi was born on July 2, 1984, in Lahore, to Najam Sethi and Jugnu Mohsin. Both his parents are veteran journalists. His father also served as an acting Chief Minister of Punjab and chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board for one year. Book and Career
In 2006, at the end of his graduation Sethi started to write an English novel The Wish Maker about "the political history of Pakistan with three generations of characters who live in a middle-class, liberal enclave of Lahore."
In 2013, he began focusing on his music career and made his film debut as a singer in The Reluctant Fundamentalist (2013) and released a cover single "Mohabbat Karne Waley" later that year. Later, he released four cover singles including his own version of Reshma's song "Kithay Nain Na Jori", which earned him critical appraisal. Sethi recorded two songs "Kya Hoga Kya Hoga" and "Aah Ko" for Manto (2015) and debuted as a featured artist in the eighth season of Coke Studio.
In 2016, he released his first original single "Mahi Mera", which was critically well received. दिल जलाने की बात करते हो
दिल जलाने की बात करते हो
आशियाने की बात करते हो
दिल जलाने की बात करते हो
सारी दुनिया के रंजो गम देकर
मुस्कुराने की बात करते हो
The lyrics of Ali Sethi's song "Dil Jalane Ki Baat" speak about the futility of discussing the act of breaking someone's heart or causing them pain in the pursuit of a relationship. The repeated "hmm" sounds in the beginning of the song give off a feeling of hesitation or contemplation, making the listener wonder if the singer is unsure of their intentions. The lines "Dil jalane ki baat karte ho, aashiyaane ki baat karte ho" show that the singer is talking about the idea of burning down someone's heart and possibly ruining their home or sense of security, all for the sake of fulfilling one's own desires.
The chorus of the song is where the singer questions the point of such actions, asking why one would want to give others the sorrows and troubles of the world while wanting to discuss how to make them smile. The lyrics are a commentary on the often self-centered nature of love and relationships, highlighting the need to think about the consequences of one's actions before acting on them. The use of poetic language and repeated phrases give the song a haunting and contemplative feel.
