Alina Orlova Lyrics

I have kissed your mouth
There was a bitter taste on my lips
Was it the taste of blood?
They say that love has a bitter taste
But what of that? What of that?
I have kissed your mouth, Jokanaan
The lyrics of Alina Orlova's song Salome seem to be a retelling of the story of Salome from the Bible. In the story, Salome is the stepdaughter of King Herod and asks for the head of John the Baptist, also known as Jokanaan, as a reward for dancing for her stepfather. The lines "I have kissed your mouth, Jokanaan" seems to refer to Salome kissing John the Baptist's severed head after her request was granted. The bitterness mentioned in the song might be a reflection of Salome's conflicting emotions as she both desires and hates John the Baptist. The bloody taste mentioned could be seen as a symbol of the violence and passion involved in their relationship.
The repetition of the lines "I have kissed your mouth, Jokanaan" throughout the song creates a haunting and almost obsessive quality to the lyrics. Orlova's vocals also add to the otherworldly atmosphere of the song, lending further weight to the idea that this is a retelling of a biblical story. Overall, the interpretation of the lyrics could be seen as a commentary on the nature of desire and the consequences of giving into those desires.
