Oh, but you can't go back, ... while they're singing, the past seems real. Memories, sweet to bitter, make your heart feel the joys and the pain all over again. Elvis was Elvis in '56, but his version can't hold a candle to this one. Different times/different arrangements/different talent. What no one mentions is this was part of a tribute album to the Louin Brothers, who, along with dozens, also recorded this song. All the compliments herein are dead on.

The composers created only beautiful songs. I love the harmonies. I sang this with a guy with a beautiful baritone voice in a weekly country music gathering in Mountain Home, AR. I sang the harmony. We were good but James and Alison are the best. Such a soulful song

This song has personal meaning to me, since my ex wife of 25 years left and came back four times (I know I allowed it, but the heart does what it wants to) last times a few years ago. She left my two girls, who they were very close to because she was a stay at home Mom and does not know her now four grandkids. The horrror has left me drowning in a River of Tears.
