The band released their self-titled debut in 1995 to much critical acclaim and media attention. New Jersey's Gern Blandsten Records stepped in and issued the band's 1998 follow-up, Turning Into Small. 2000 yielded a third ANL&LF full-length, 'Straight Blue Line', a collection of 7" singles, b-sides and unreleased tracks recorded from 1995 to 1997. In 2001, a souped-up reissue of their debut with four additional unreleased tracks was released.
Often referred to by fans as simply 'L&L', the band was active for 6 years from 1993 until 1999. From 1986 until 1993, most of the same lineup performed under the moniker 'Senepede', but weren't a dreampop/shoegaze outfit until 1991.
You can now find them now in solo projects- Jett Brando, w/Jeremy Winter | Ifwhen, w/Merc | Dalek w/Joshua Booth | Stiv 1 w/Stephen Doherty. Sadly we may never see them perform together again.
All the Time
All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And kiss those tears until they dry?
Would you like me then to go?
When you smile, then I'll know...
Hey, Hey, it's over
And I don't want you around me
Hey, Hey, it's over
All those kisses in the air
Fall like snowflakes on my soul
I will love you in despair
I will smile in the cold
Hey, Hey, it's over
And I don't want you around me
Hey, Hey, it's over
But I just love when you're beside me
What in the world
Is this red swirl
That spins around my mind
All the time
All year...
The lyrics of All the Time by All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors reveal a complex emotional journey in a relationship. The song opens with a tender offer of comfort and support, as the singer asks if they can come to the aid of their hurt partner. The next line, "Would you like me then to go?" suggests that perhaps the relationship is on rocky ground, and the singer is unsure if they are really welcome. The chorus sings both "Hey, Hey, it's over" and "But I just love when you're beside me", indicating that there is an inner conflict within the singer. They are torn between the desire to end the relationship and the inability to let go of their love for the person.
The second verse carries on this tension, with the singer describing the intense emotions they feel that are both beautiful and painful, like "kisses in the air / Fall like snowflakes on my soul". The paradoxical feeling of loving someone despite despair and the coldness of the world is layered over the contradictory inner struggle of wanting to be with someone yet wanting to end it at the same time. The final lines of the song reveal the depth of the confusion, as the singer admits they are caught in a spiral they can't understand: "What in the world / Is this red swirl / That spins around my mind / All the time / All year...". The song leaves the resolution of these conflicts unstated, leaving the listener to wonder about the outcome of this tortured love story.
