When Alex Gaskarth (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards) was in middle school, he was moved from private school to public school, where he met Jack Barakat (lead guitar, backing vocals), and put the band together; later recruiting Rian Dawson (drums, percussion), and Zack Merrick (bass guitar, backing vocals). The band's name came from a line in the New Found Glory song Head On Collision. Early on, All Time Low mostly performed covers of songs by bands like Green Day, blink-182, and New Found Glory. Since their debut, they have released 9 studio albums: The Party Scene (2005), So Wrong, It's Right (2007), Nothing Personal (2009), Dirty Work (2011), Don't Panic (2012), Future Hearts (2015), Last Young Renegade (2017), Wake Up, Sunshine (2020), and Tell Me I'm Alive (2023) as well as two live albums, Straight to DVD (2010), and Straight to DVD II: Past, Present and Future Hearts (2016). They have also released some EPs, most notably, Put Up or Shut Up (2006), and MTV Unplugged (2010).

What I like about ATL is how their lyrics always reflect something, and are a lot deeper than a lot of music nowadays. I think their sound is like the whole 'too pop for rock, too rock for pop' saying, but I like the fact that even if they're changing their sound, the lyrics are still meaningful

I like this song because it strikes me as very genuine. Alex has talked about how this album is about his inner demons and is very personal to him.
We all know how much this band is into the party life. This song is about regretting that and, to an extent, wanting to get away from it. That's something I actually see Alex struggling with. See, genuine.

So.... What do you think of Wake Up Sunshine? I and many other fans love how it’s got elements of old ATL. They even did some new stuff on there too like on the song “Trouble is” which is in 6/4 and 7/4 time instead of 4/4.

I mean they've always done pop covers and now more than ever (hands to myself, elastic heart, green light, love me like you do etc.) they love pop music and I think now that they're older and more secure they're starting to really delve into the sound. I also like that their lyrics are more about finding strength in each other and family rather than finding strength in a romantic relationship. Alex's vocals sound so great with this new sound but they're not losing their rock/punk sound. I honestly love it and will defs be buying the album

I love that they each have their own thing they do. Alex has the leg thing, Jack leans his body into the guitar, Zack holds the neck of the bass up too high and Rian makes faces. It just adds little things to their performances.

I went into journeys and Dirty Laundry played. Was talking to an employee about warped and bands when the song played. I said I loved ATL and that their new stuff is really good. He only replied with saying All Time Low is AT an All Time Low. I almost threw a box of shoes at him because honestly they are such an amazing band. Every album is something new and fresh, yet they stay true to themselves. They aren't some teenage band pop punk anymore, they're growing into a more mature sound that fits them and it's amazing. Even if you don't like them you can at least see and hear the evolution in their music.

I wasn't sure if the guy was just joking about their name or being serious, but it still made me quite mad. ATL is awesome👌🏼

I hope this song becomes a radio single in the U.S.! I don't care what people say: I want ATL to thrive and have huge success. Music fans are the worst in that they always seem to want to keep their faves from achieving mega-success. When you like an author, do you want them to only sell 50,000 books? Or become the next J.K. Rowling? Come on. Every (or almost all) artists dream of making it BIG. All Time Low deserve a big mainstream radio hit because they've been working their asses off to make music for over a decade now. Bands change. Some may change their sound on every album some may do the same consistent stuff for years. Can you respect bands like all time low and fall out boy for changing their sound? I doubt they would like it if you were to insult the absolute shit out of them if you don't like their new stuff. If your into the same consistent pop punk go look at other bands like knuckle puck or neck deep etc..

All Time Low seems to be taken a totally different turn musically and lyrically. I like it because it seems more true to life. These songs compared to past albums are kind of like waking up from a life you have no control over and coming to terms with that and accepting the past. So stoked about this album though! Who cares if their style changes? They should be able to make the music they want to make without fans stuck in the past to be upset about it. It's called progression, and that's great. Fair enough, you don't have to like the song, that's your opinion, but you shouldn't be rude to the band suggesting ridiculous things like "they are doing it for the money". Stay positive, your negativity isn't going to change anything :)

They've been doing pop covers since day one and it's only gotten more noticeable lately and they have allusions to pop artists in some of their songs.
