My Girl
Aloe Blacc and JC Chasez and Miguel and Smokey Robinson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it's cold outside I've got the month of May
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)

I've got so much honey the bees envy me
I've got a sweeter song than the birds in the trees
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)

Hey hey hey
Hey hey hey
Ooh

I don't need no money, fortune, or fame
I've got all the riches baby one man can claim
I guess you'd say
What can make me feel this way?
My girl (my girl, my girl)
Talkin' 'bout my girl (my girl)

I've got sunshine on a cloudy day
With my girl

I've even got the month of May
With my girl

Overall Meaning

"My Girl" is a classic Motown song that expresses the idea of true love and happiness. The song tells the story of a man who has found the love of his life and the joy that comes along with it. The opening lines, "I've got sunshine on a cloudy day, when it's cold outside I've got the month of May" expresses how this man's love for his girl makes him feel good, no matter what the weather or general circumstances are. The next verse tells us that the man has found so much joy and sweetness in his love that it seems to make the bees and the birds jealous. The chorus repeats the feelings of happiness and contentment that the man feels, as he sings "my girl, my girl, my girl".

These lyrics express a simple but powerful message of love and its ability to bring happiness to one's life. The song highlights how true love can make a person feel fulfilled and content, and how it doesn't require material things like money or fame.

JC does what he wants with his voice, the control he has is sensational! We lost so much by not having him singing more.

I agree with you about JC, it’s impressive

i find it amazing that smokey asked Jc to sing with him on this album. he's the only unsigned artist on the entire album. clearly shows how much his voice is loved and respected.

Awfully Nice

JC. He is a type where he does not mean to steal the show but his talent overflows! He's a charming guy and I love him.

Can you confirm this? I've been trying to find info

diseasicon

I'm not sure how to confirm, but it's kind of a well known fact. There are many times when other members of N'Sync, or other artists he collaborated have praised his work ethic and positive attitude. An example of him making sure not to steal the show would be his performance of This I Promise You with Matthew Morrison in London. When they get to the final verse, JC doesn't do his solos, because it's Morrison's show. They did the song again in NYC, and Matthew kind of gives him the signal to go ahead, and sings like he never took time off.
