I had exactly that model of TV at home when I was a little kid. Makes me feel like I just listened to the Star Spangled Banner and television was over for the day.

Thank God for my old fm analog radio . tune it all the way down or all the way up 88 or 108 and I get clear white noise . With my digital fm radio stations always come in and out . It's been a godsend at night on my bed stand . It really takes my mind off the tinnitus(ringing in the ears) . it is also good for relaxation .

i also got an old portable walkman radio . i take it with me everywhere . when im sick of noise from people in a restaurant or a waiting room , or sick of listening to my mp3 player , i put my headphones or ear buds on and i am it calms me down . the portable stereo radio also has a dx and local switch . i put it on the local and i get clean white or purple noise(purple or brown when i push the bass switch .

Analog TV was a lot more fun, I used to look for long range tv stations when conditions were right. living in Northern Ohio, Canadian stations were not out of the norm. Most of the time it wasn't about what was on the channels but the thrill of picking them up, but sometimes I stopped to watch, especially if it was an NFL game not being shown in my area.

+Petros Kouklotheatros Actually, it is completely normal. The static is mostly the sound of the cosmic microwave background leftover from the big bang. Doesn't get much more natural than this.
