Of the Night
Amber Lyrics

I hear you singing with the vengeance
Like the coyote at the moon
Singing your blues, a song I know so well
Maybe we're just clinging to illusions
We were making up as kids
But now that we're grown
Time to lift that veil and make a new way
Stepping out on our own into the dark night
It can get cold in the world alone
But if you should ever feel lonely
In a minute, I'll be there
You can just call me
And I'll appear
I'll be there, you can just
I'll be there, you can just call me

What soul is crying
If you know more there's so much to fight for
We can march on to the beating of the drum
I know you're trying
Let's remember what brought us together
I don't want to sacrifice
We can keep on, wouldn't that be nice?

Stepping out on our own into the dark night
It can get cold in the world alone
But if you should ever feel lonely
In a minute, I'll be there
You can just call me
And I'll appear
I'll be there, you can just
I'll be there, you can just call me

And baby when the future comes
Get in and get with it
Keep moving it forward
Dust that worry off your shoulders
Let the night wind blow

And baby when the
I'll be there, you can just call me

I'll be there, you can just
And baby when the

I'll be there, you can just call me
I'll be there, you can just call me

And baby when the future comes
Get in and get with it
Keep moving it forward
Dust that worry off your shoulders

And baby when the future calls
Pick up and talk to it
Don't hesitate
Watch your world blossom and grow

I'll be there, you can just call me

And baby when the future comes get in and get with it
Keep moving it forward
Dust that worry off your shoulders

And baby when the future calls
Pick up and talk to it
Don't hesitate
Watch your world blossom and grow

I'll be there, call me when you know

Overall Meaning

The song "Dark Night" by Amber Coffman is an ode to the difficult times we all have to face at some point in our lives. It begins with the singer acknowledging the pain that someone close to her is going through, singing about how they're "singing with the vengeance like the coyote at the moon" and "singing [their] blues, a song [she] knows so well". From there, she reflects on the fact that some of the illusions we cling to as kids just aren't sustainable as we grow up, and that it's time to "lift that veil and make a new way." She then offers support to the person she's addressing, assuring them that if they need her help, she'll be there for them no matter what: "In a minute, I'll be there / You can just call me / And I'll appear".

The chorus of the song reiterates this message, and adds a note of hope as well. The singer acknowledges that "it can get cold in the world alone", but insists that they're both "stepping out on our own into the dark night", where they'll be able to find their own way. She concludes the chorus by repeating, "I'll be there, you can just call me", driving home the idea that they're in this together and will support each other through the difficult times. The rest of the song is essentially a call to action, with the singer urging the person she's addressing to keep moving forward, not to be afraid of the future ("Don't hesitate"), and to embrace the opportunities that come their way ("Watch your world blossom and grow").
