Catch the next wave
Get the move right
Darken the wave
Coasting all day
Coasting all day
The way you're going
The waves are gone
The waves are gone
The waves are gone, you said
Man, they all gone
Pride destroyed me man
'Til it took a hold of me
And I feel it when I cry
I can feel it in my dreams
Miki Dora
Taking your time
The waves are gone
The waves are gone
1963
We were up on North Beach
And you're copping all my tricks, man
But you don't do it like me
Sitting on the pier
Sipping on my beer
Yeah, I come upon a vision
When Mary comes to me
Silver golden waves
And chills that keep me clear
You all recall my name
But don't mean a thing to me
Miki's so fine
Catch the next wave
Miki Dora
Darken the wave
The waves they are gone
The waves they are gone
The waves are gone
The waves are gone
Pride destroyed me man
And I didn't know the deal
I said, "I'm sad I'm gonna cry"
Scaring the devil in me
I shouldn't have gone
We should't have gone
But I did not discover the difference
It didn't come to me
Give with nothing to take
Slid along the waves
He could not suffer existence
It wasn't meant to be
Getting on fine
Rolling on me
There's still enough time
To roll around with me
Roll around with me
Roll around with me
Roll around with me
Roll around with me
Roll around with me
Roll around with me
Roll around with me
The lyrics of "Miki Dora" by Amen Dunes capture the feelings of a man who has lost his sense of purpose and identity. The song is about Miki Dora, a famous surfer from the 1960s and '70s who lived a carefree lifestyle that many people envied. The song's protagonist is drawn to Miki's surfing skill and his free-spirited way of life. The lyrics give the sense that Miki Dora is more than just a person but represents something more significant, a way of life that the singer longs for but can never fully attain.
"Getting on fine, catch the next wave, get the move right, darken the wave," the singer urges himself to follow Miki's example, to surf with skill and style, and to embrace life's wildness. However, as the song progresses, the singer realizes that Miki's carefree lifestyle carries a heavy price. "Pride destroyed me man, 'til it took hold of me," he sings, acknowledging that Miki's disregard for social norms led him down a dark path.
In the end, the singer understands that he cannot be Miki Dora, and all he can do is capture the essence of his way of life in his own way. The song's melancholic yet hopeful tone reflects the singer's realization that he must find his own path in life.

"They come out of nowhere, instantaneously materialize and just as quickly they break and vanish. Chasing after such fleeting mirages is a complete waste of time. That is what I choose to do with my life." ~ Miki Dora

Miki Dora was arguably the most gifted and innovative surfer of his generation and the foremost opponent of surfing’s commercialization. He was also a lifelong criminal and retrograde: a true embodiment of the distorted male psyche. He was a living contradiction; both a symbol of free-living and inspiration, and of the false heroics American culture has always celebrated. With lyrics of regret and redemption at the end of one’s youth, the song is about Dora, and myself, but ultimately it is a reflection on all manifestations of mythical heroic maleness and its illusions.

@Anthony V I've got it :)

@Heather Holiday No doubt Dora had some horrific views and was more than likely a racist and anti-semite, it's worth noting he was raised in abusive households His step father Gard Chapin was known to be a violent alcoholic and racist who I would imagine shaped some of his step sons thinking. I'm not defending Dora but sometimes the damage and trauma are so great its never overcome. When Miki was at the age most would develop their own views and realize the error in what the have been shown he might not have. He was a troubled man.
