Ridicule
American Head Charge Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ridicule my own
So precious alone
These faces of everyone
Remind me of home
You're plotting riddled sin
All my needs giving in
Blow me a kiss and leave me to the dogs
So, you think you got it
You think you know me
You want to bring me down
I am in my finest hour
Ridicule my own
So precious alone
These faces of everyone
Remind me of home
You're watching me dying
How am I looking?
Why don't you take a picture
You're plotting riddled sin
All my needs giving in
Blow me a kiss
And leave me to the dogs

My fear, traps me waiting for it
My past is glowing red and yellow, again

Run, back where you came from
Not that it matters
I'll never see you again
My fists strain to sift mercy
Ridicule my own
So precious alone
These faces of everyone
Remind me of home
You're plotting riddled sin
All my needs giving in
Blow me a kiss and leave me to the dogs

My fear, traps me waiting for it

My past is glowing red and yellow, again
My fate will show me where to follow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to American Head Charge's "Ridicule" express themes of isolation, emotional vulnerability, and defiance in the face of persecution. The singer reflects on the power dynamics of interpersonal relationships, acknowledging his own tendency to ridicule himself in order to protect against the ridicule of others. The faces of those around him "remind him of home," suggesting that he's become accustomed to feeling disconnected from others and that this sense of separation has become a core part of his identity. In contrast, the voices of his persecutors sound vengeful and calculating ("plotted riddled sin"), and yet the singer refuses to back down. He declares that he is in his finest hour and challenges those who seek to bring him down. Throughout the song, there is a sense that the singer is channeling his fear and anger in order to challenge those who would undermine his sense of self-worth.

One possible interpretation of the song is that it speaks to the experience of individuals who have struggled with mental health issues or who have experienced trauma. The phrase "My past is glowing red and yellow, again" suggests that the singer is haunted by traumatic memories, and the reference to "waiting" for fear to take hold speaks to the sense of perpetual anxiety and unease that can come with mental health struggles. Nonetheless, the song is not merely about victimhood; there is a clear sense of resilience and defiance that runs through it. By declaring that he is in his finest hour, for example, the singer is refusing to be defined by his past and is instead asserting his own strength and agency.

I Fucking love this song. I used to play this album every day in my younger years.. home from school. Cd player on just zoning out and playing lots of video games.. didnt have much of a social life but music has helped me through many struggles of loneliness and depressing times. Could i have found another outlet and positive outcome? Maybe.. but it got me this far and i find that positive outlet in life everyday grateful to be here. Thanks for releasing your art, AHC 🖤❤🔥

This is one of the few "nu-metal" bands that truly inspired me. The unique vocals, production, and riffs are truly underappreciated. :) ♪♫

This may sound silly to some but I've loved this band since I first ever heard them way back in the naughties lol(feeling old) the silly part is this track has helped me through a lot of shit for whatever reason it seems to connect with me and let's me zone out for a few precious minutes from the bullshit we go through every day....
