In 2005, Amerie burst back onto the music scene with her fourth single "1 Thing", which was used as the theme song for the Will Smith movie "Hitch". "1 Thing" went to the top of the charts in various international markets, including the US, UK and others around the world. It earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (the album "Touch" was also nominated for the "Best Contemporary R&B Album" Grammy ). The album sold an estimated 800,000 copies worldwide and went gold in the US and silver in the UK.
Amerie's third album 'Because I Love It' was released in the UK , Europe and Asia in 2007. The single "Take Control" was released in October 2006, and it enjoyed international success. The second single "Gotta Work" did not fare as well in the charts, despite receiving heavy airplay on UK and European music video channels. The album has sold a combined total of 310,000 copies worldwide and is her most critically acclaimed album.
In late 2007, was reported that Amerie had left her label Columbia Records, and signed with the Island Def Jam Music Group.
Amerie revealed the album title to be changed from 'Breakups To Makeups' to 'In Love & War'. Amerie also announced that her first single off the album will be titled "Why R U?" produced by The Buchanans. The single premiered online in the week of May 11th and received fairly mixed reviews. The track itself is even compared to Mary J. Blige's "What's The 411?" and "My Life" album, because of the old school feel.
Amerie changed her artist name to Ameriie (extra I) in 2010. She said that it gave her more positive energy as an artist. She changed her artist name back to Amerie (without the extra I) with the double EP releases '4AM Mulholland' and 'After 4AM' in 2018.
Right now her main focus is on books, youtube channel and her son and husband.

What the hell do you want from me?
Why don't you leave me alone
It's been a done deal with you for a minute
So you need to get along
What's the problem?
Why is it so difficult for you to see?
If I was you I'd be embarrassed
For the way, I carry on
You's a grown' ass man
Dawg you can't even stand on ya own two feet
Now your lookin' my way
It's too late 'cuz you messed it up with me
You needa change your tone
Get your swagger goin'
You gotta hold your own
So don't call my phone
'Cuz you ain't gotta home with me no more
Get it out your head baby
It's over, yes it's the end
No matter what you try to do
We will never be again
I try to be patient but I can't take it
Get ahold of yourself
It will never be you again
Understand it'll be someone else
You's a grown' ass man
Dawg you can't even stand on you own two feet
Now you're lookin' my way
It's too late 'cuz you messed it up with me
You needa change your tone
Get your swagger goin'
You gotta hold your own so don't call my phone
'Cuz you ain't gotta home with me no more
This is the last time for this conversation
Can't do it your excuses are so amazing
Get throught it I know your tryin' to change my mind
But you know your only wasting my time
What do we got to go through this
I'm sick of the B S I'm done
So you'll never get this again
Hey ama ama amerie
Ain't no need for anger
He a lil' boy just give him the middle finger
Call your big brother, bitch slugga, weight plugga
He gonna get enough for dialin' up ya numba
Coward, this homie got a twat pushed outward
Chicks with dicks don't belong in yo mix
Long as you straight, playin' back in the quarter eights
Steppin' in zeppies, reppin' D C, ya stink
NYC mah place, Nas relate, fly estates
Fine wines and diamonds, crembole on da plate
And yall girls relate so put yo hands up
And what, tell the mutha fucka to man up
You's a grown' ass man
Dawg you can't even stand on ya own two feet
(Hey, stand on ya own two)
Now you're lookin' my way
It's too late 'cuz you messed it up with me
(Now it's just too late)
You needa change your tone
Get your swagger goin' you gotta hold your own
So don't call my phone
'Cuz you ain't gotta home with me no more
(Just leave me alone)
You's a grown' ass man
Dawg you can't even stand on ya own two feet
(No matter what you do)
Now your lookin' my way
It's too late 'cuz you messed it up with me
(I won't be wit you)
You needa change your tone get your swagger goin'
You gotta hold your own
(Keep it movin')
So don't call my phone

Ohh no, no
Man Up by Amerie is a song about a woman who is fed up with a man who continues to pursue her even after they have broken up. The song sends a message to the man that he needs to take responsibility for his life and "man up" instead of relying on her. The first verse is very direct, with the singer telling the man that she is done with him and he needs to leave her alone. She is exasperated with his persistence and can't understand why he can't get the message.
The chorus repeats the sentiment of the song that the man needs to take responsibility for his life and be independent instead of relying on her. She is done with him and doesn't want to be with him anymore. The second verse expands on this theme, with the singer telling the man that she has tried to be patient with him, but he needs to move on.
The bridge repeats the message that this is the last time they will have this conversation and that the man needs to stop making excuses and move on with his life. The final verse includes rapping from some artists who give the man a stern warning to "man up." They tell him that he needs to take responsibility for his life and stop relying on others to take care of him.
