Burning Creation
Amon Amarth Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Surtur comes from the south
With red hot fire wargods swords
Shines like the sun
Mountains breaks, men on hel-road
The heaven crumbles, Ragnarok is at hand

Then to Hlin appears
Another grief when Odin goes to fight
The evil Fenris
And the brave and glory Frey
Goes against Surtur
Then will Friggs beloved one die
Vidar,odin's mighty son,
He will come to slay the wolf
The sword runs into the
Heart of Hverdrungs son
So he avenges his father

So comes Llodyns noble son
Thor he goes to fight the snake
In anger he slays the guardian of Midgaard
Nine steps dying walks Odin's son
Away from the snake who misdeeds not fear
Dying from it venom

When all are gone
Only Surtur remained
Passing his hand of fire

Across the whole world
Consuming all of creation

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Amon Amarth's song Burning Creation describe the end times of Norse mythology, known as Ragnarok. The fiery giant Surtur comes from the south with his flaming sword, causing destruction and chaos. As the earth crumbles and the heavens fall, the gods and goddesses prepare for their final battles. Odin fights against the monstrous wolf Fenris with the help of Frey, who must ultimately sacrifice himself. Odin's son Vidar slays the wolf Hverdrung's son, avenging his father's death. Meanwhile, Thor battles the serpent guardian of Midgaard and ultimately kills it in a fit of rage. However, this battle causes Thor to die from the serpent's venom. In the end, only Surtur remains, consuming all of creation with his fiery hand.

This song represents the classic Viking metal sound that Amon Amarth is known for. The lyrics are inspired by Norse mythology and depict the epic battles that will bring about the end of the world. The imagery is vivid and intense, with a focus on destruction and chaos. The song is fast-paced and aggressive, with thundering drums and soaring guitar solos. The vocals are harsh and growling, adding to the intense atmosphere.
