Without Fear
Amon Amarth Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Without fear my destiny
As the raging skies begins to fade
Pouring rain
Licks my wounds as my blood flows
From my torn flesh
As I die
My only friend
And pray that Odin
Will take me home
The battle rages
But I hear only raindrops falling
Like in slow motion to the ground
Death release me
Free me from my earthly pain
Odin I ask thee please
Take me home
Without fear I die
As I look
To the sky the heaven is lit
And Valkyries in shining armor
Descend
I rest my head
On the ground
And close my eyes
I know that Odin's sent for me
As I die
Without fear I die
I close my eyes
And die
Without fear
The lyrics of Amon Amarth's song "Without Fear" can be interpreted as the final moments of a warrior's life on the battlefield as he faces his inevitable death with courage and bravery. The first two lines of the song indicate that the warrior has accepted his destiny and is not afraid of what is to come. As the battle continues, he feels the rain licks his wounds, symbolizing the end of his journey and the blood flowing from his torn flesh hints at the agony he must be going through.
In the following lines, the warrior holds his sword, his only friend, and prays to Odin, the Norse god, to take him home. The battle rages, but he hears only the falling raindrops like they are in slow motion. In the final moments of his life, the warrior pleads with Odin to release him from his earthly pain and take him home to be with him.
The last verse in the song indicates that the warrior has passed away, looking up at the sky and realizing that Odin has sent the Valkyries who are descending in shining armor to guide him to his final resting place.
