Read Full Bio ↴Amusement Parks on Fire are an English shoegaze band from Nottingham.
The band was formed by Michael Feerick in 2004, who wrote and performed their self-titled debut album entirely by himself. The band has since expanded and now write and perform as a five-piece currently composed of Michael Feerick (guitar/vocals), Daniel Knowles (guitar/production), Peter Dale (drums), Gavin Poole (bass) and Joe Hardy (keyboard).

The band signed to V2 Records in 2005 and went on to record their second studio album Out of the Angeles at Sigur Rós' Sundlaugin studio in Álafoss, Iceland.
The line-up altered to its current state in summer 2006 with the addition of Gavin Poole (Bass) and Joe Hardy (Keyboards). This was followed by a co-headline tour of the UK with US noise outfit Scarling. and a headline tour across mainland Europe and Scandinavia.
The band played in Japan for the first time at the Summer Sonic Festival 2006.
In addition to the second album "Out of the Angeles", the band recorded a series of limited edition 12" EPs — the first of which, "In Flight" was released early in September 2006. This was followed by "A Star Is Born" on the 2nd of April 2007 which was supported by a UK & Ireland headlining tour.
The band recently played a short UK tour and debuted some new material, and are currently in Nottingham recording new material for a possible release in 2008. In addition, they are currently playing some small live shows across the UK and Ireland, and mostly travelling by train.
Local Boy Makes God
Amusement Parks On Fire Lyrics

In my bones I haven't got time
You ask What you here for?
Take me to the bathroom (back room?) And open the door
It's all I care about And I found It's all I hear about
I can't figure out what I wanna wait for I forged all the answers
And now I want more I won't step back and watch
What I paid for Wait until the mask's off And take it too far
It's all I care about And I found it's all I hear (I'm here?) about
Straight from the camera In my heart Forged all the answers
Right from the start I haven't got time
You ask What you here for? I won't step back and watch What I paid for
The lyrics of Amusement Parks On Fire’s “Local Boy Makes God” are both cryptic and intriguing. The song seems to follow the internal struggle of an individual who is driven by ambition and a hunger for success. The song begins with a girl in the phone box, who is perhaps his love interest who has been with him since the beginning. He feels this ambition is ingrained in his bones as it drives him to continuously look for success. He doesn’t have time to question his purpose and instead asks others why they are here.
The lyrics talk about the singer wanting more and not settling for what he has achieved so far, as he has not figured out what he wants to wait for. The answers he needs he has forged for himself, indicating there may be a sense of falsity in the life he leads. The chorus emphasizes that his drive for success and ambition is all he cares and hears about. The singer does not want to watch what he has paid for, suggesting he wants to attain success on his terms and not settle for a mundane life.
The singer’s journey towards success is not without its risks, as the lyrics suggest. He is willing to take things too far and wait until his “mask” is off. This could mean that he has to keep up a facade or that he has to do things he may not necessarily be proud of to reach where he wants to be. Overall, the lyrics paint an honest insight into the mind of someone who is driven by ambition and their unyielding hunger for success.
