Time’s Owned every thought I’ve known
The earth moans
And I’m sure just how far we can go
The first touch of you, love
Was walking in our winter coats
We dreamt of the words of
We walked down the white road
The day the night decided to go
We gave it all but we’ll never know
The weight of the words of
The old songs we used to know
"The Day It Snowed" by Amusement Parks On Fire is a reflective and melancholic song that focuses on the transience of life and love. The opening lines, "Move slow, time's owned every thought I've known," suggest that the singer feels trapped by the passage of time and unable to shake off the memories that linger in their mind. The image of the earth moaning further emphasizes the sense of discomfort and unease.
The next lines shift the focus towards a memory of a past love - "The first touch of you, love, was walking in our winter coats." This invokes a sense of nostalgia and longing for a simpler time when love was new and full of possibilities. The reference to "The Old songs we used to know" reinforces this idea of looking back to a time when life was more innocent and carefree.
As the song progresses, the imagery becomes increasingly poetic and surreal. "We walked down the white road, the day the night decided to go" suggests a sense of unpredictability and chaos, as if the world is unraveling and changing in unexpected ways. The repetition of the line "The weight of the words of the old songs we used to know" serves as a haunting refrain, emphasizing the weight of the memories and experiences that continue to linger in the singer's mind.
Overall, "The Day It Snowed" is a poignant and bittersweet meditation on love, loss, and the fleeting nature of human existence. The lyrics are filled with vivid imagery and emotional depth, offering a glimpse into the inner world of the singer and their struggles to come to terms with the passage of time.
