In a Little While
Amy Grant Lyrics

Got a ticket coming home,
Wish the officer had known
What a day today has been.
Then I stumbled through the door
Dropping junk mail on the floor
When will this day end?

But then your letter caught my eye
Brought the hope in me to life
'cause you know me very well
And I bet you wrote me
Just to tell me

In a little while,
We'll be with the father
Can't you see him smile? (oh)
In a little while
We'll be home forever
In a while
We're just here to learn to love him
We'll be home in just a little while

Boy, that letter hit the spot
Made me think of all I've got
And all that waits for me.
Guess I've known it all day long
Wonder where my thoughts went wrong
When will my heart believe?

Waking half way through the night
Reaching toward the lamp for light
Picking up the word I find
Here's another letter
To remind me.

In a little while
We'll be with the father
Can't you see him smile? (oh)
In a little while
We'll be home forever
In a while
We're just here to learn to love him
We'll be home in just a little while

Days like these are just a test of our will
Will we walk or will we fall?
Well, I can almost see the top of the hill
And I believe it's worth it all

In a little while
We'll be with the father
Can't you see him smile? (oh)
In a little while,
We'll be home forever
In a while
We're just here to learn to love him
We'll be home in just a little while

In a little while
We'll be with the father
Can't you see him smile? (oh)
In a little while
We'll be home forever
In a while
We're just here to learn to love him
We'll be home in just a little

In a little while
We'll be with the father
Can't you see him smile? (oh)
In a little while,
We'll be home forever
In a while
We're just here to learn to love him;
We'll be home in just a little

In a little while
We'll be with the father
Can't you see him smile? (oh)
In a little while,
We'll be home forever
In a while
We're just here to learn to love him
We'll be home in just a little

In a little while,

We'll be with the father
Can't you see him smile? (oh)

Overall Meaning

The song "In A Little While" by Amy Grant tackles the theme of faith and hope in the face of trials and challenges. The lyrics describe a person who had a bad day and feels exhausted and overwhelmed, but then receives a letter that reminds them of the hope and joy that come from believing in God. The letter tells them that in a little while, they will be with the father, and they will be home forever. This message brings comfort and strength to the person, and they are able to see the challenges they face as a test of their will, rather than an insurmountable obstacle.

The repetition of the lyrics "In a little while, we'll be with the father" emphasizes the hope and anticipation of being united with God in the afterlife. The use of the phrase "just here to learn to love him" suggests that the purpose of life is to learn to love God and others, and that this learning takes place through the challenges and struggles that we face on earth. The imagery of a smile on the face of the father suggests that this love is reciprocated, and that God is eagerly waiting for his children to come home.

This song brings me back to my terrible childhood when all I had to hold on to was my bible and my Amy Grant Age to Age cassette tape. It got me through alot and I am so grateful that you put it on here for me to enjoy again. God Bless You!

I used to listen to Amy Grant 40 years ago, as a new born again believer, this song kept coming back in my head, so it is nice to revisit this. This song gave me chills, and is a great reminder that we will be with the Father in a little while. Peace

This was my mother's last song she heard before she passed @ 10:59 pm August 2, 2016. I was bedside next to her on that moment. I'm her one of two daughters. She raised us with great faith in believing in Jesus. I played this song to her as she passed and called my sister who's out of state, so she could be a part of the last moments. I'll never be complete.

Wow! What a blessing for your Mom to pass peacefully, listening to such beautiful music. My Mom passed on September 15, 2016. She passed with a trauma team trying to save her life. Everytime she would begin to breath on her own, they would stop, and she would stop breathing again. After about the 5th time we let her go. My sister and I were together.

This song is so beautiful, and when I'm having one of "those days", it helps me to remember that, soon, all this world's mess will be over and we'll be with Him Forever.
