A self-taught musician, Macdonald began by playing her father's guitar after being inspired by Travis at the T in the Park Festival in 2000, where she heard Travis' song "Turn" and wanted to play it herself. She started performing in pubs and coffee houses around Glasgow at the age of 15. She signed a record deal with Vertigo, the same record label which hosts The Killers and Razorlight. Her first single, Poison Prince, was released on May 7, 2007. Her debut album, This Is the Life, was released on July 30, 2007. "Don't Tell Me That It's Over" was released in March 2010 as the lead single from her second studio album, A Curious Thing, which was released on 8 March 2010.
Macdonald's third album, Life in a Beautiful Light, was released on June 11, 2012. The lead single, Slow It Down, is about her being a petrol head.
Feed My Fire

I never thought I′d find
Fascination, inspiration
Corners of my mind
Feed my, feed my fire
Hold me, pure desire
Waiting, waiting for the time
We will be mine
You will be mine
You will be mine
Picking up the pieces
Of the heart you left behind
Put me back together
This new love of mine I've found
Basking in the glory
Masking out the pain
These memories in my head
Will never be the same again
Feed my, feed my fire
Hold me, pure desire
Waiting, waiting for the time
Feed my, feed my fire
Hold me, pure desire
Waiting, waiting for the time
We will be mine
You will be mine
You will be mine
I′m running just to find you
And my feet won't touch the ground
Aching for the time to change
It's coming back around
I′m running just to find you
And my feet won′t touch the ground
Aching for the time to change
It's coming back around
Coming back around
Feed my, feed my fire
Hold me, pure desire
Waiting, waiting for the time
Feed my, feed my fire
Hold me, pure desire
Waiting, waiting for the time
We will be mine
You will be mine
You will be mine
Oh, I love you baby, please
Never leave me, it′s true love you see
Oh, I love you baby, please
Never leave me, it's true love you see
The lyrics of "Feed My Fire" by Amy Macdonald convey a sense of longing, passion, and hopefulness in the search for love and fulfillment. The song opens with the singer expressing that they never thought they would find the answers they were searching for. Fascination and inspiration have ignited within them, awakening new thoughts and ideas in the corners of their mind. They yearn for their desires to be fulfilled, to be held and consumed by the pure, intense fire of love. They are waiting for the right time for their love to blossom, believing that eventually, the person they long for will be theirs.
As the song progresses, the singer reflects on the remnants of a broken heart left behind by someone else. They have managed to piece themselves back together, finding a new love, but still hold onto the memories and pain of the past. Despite the challenges they have faced, they embrace the glory of new love while attempting to mask the lingering pain. However, they acknowledge that these memories will never be the same again, signifying a shift in their mindset and a determination to move forward.
The chorus of the song reinforces the longing for love and encapsulates the desire to be consumed by its passion. The singer yearns for their fire to be fed, to be held by the object of their affection. They eagerly await the opportune time when they can claim their love and be claimed in return.
The bridge continues to emphasize the singer's relentless pursuit of love, willing to go to great lengths to find the person they long for. Their feet won't touch the ground as they run, driven by an ache for change and the anticipation of love returning to them. The repetition of the phrase "coming back around" suggests a cycle of hope and optimism, indicating that their efforts will eventually bear fruit.
The final lines of the song express a plea to their loved one to never leave. The singer professes their true love and the fear of being abandoned, highlighting the deep connection and vulnerability they have experienced. They want their loved one to understand the intensity of their emotions and the necessity of their presence.
