βI Was Jesus In Your Veinsβ, recorded with Hatcham Socialβs Toby Kidd at Studtβs Sleepwalker Studios, is the first taste of what to expect from the new album which is set for release this year.
Amy performed at a rare London show at the Young and Lost Club at The Nest in Dalston where she unveiled tracks from the new album for the first time with a full band line up.
Amy Studt began making music at a very earl age and was signed to Simon Fullerβs company at the age of fourteen and then to the Polydor label very soon after. She released her first single, βJust a Little Girlβ, at the age of sixteen, which charted at number 14 in the UK pop charts and reachednumber 1 on US radio play. Her second single, βMisfitβ, reached number 6 and this was soon followed by her album βFalse Smilesβ which went on to sell 260,000 copies. For a while Amy stayed out of the public eye, but returned in 2008 with the βMy Paper Made Menβ album.
Her ongoing stage fright again caused her to withdraw from the limelight, but she continued to craft her strange and beautiful take on pop music at her own studio. Combining the drama of Bowie era βAladdin Saneβ, the vocal innovations of the Shangri-Las and Mazzy Starβs sultry moodiness, Amy Studt is set to deliver her most complete and accomplished set of songs to date.

Misfit
Amy Studt Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You got your hot pants on,
You got your arse right out
You, think that you weren't something special,
Me and my drag dress we won't do at all,
I spent so long trying to fit the prototype
Kept just sticking in years
And I never got it right oh
What's the use?
What's the point?
You got the wrong girl!
So you do what,
You're doing there,
'Cause ill be flying higher,
Waste your own time,
I don't care
Anything you can do
I can do better!
All you girls you
Look up if if you can handle when I'm still here
Well
Your superficial I'm a misfit
But baby that's ok
All you girls when
You look into the mirror tell me how do you appear
Well
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Your superficial I'm a misfit
But that's ok.
So you got your little groups and gangs
You got your VIP
Your member only, things
You happy clappers
And your VC crew
And if you get in their way
They got ten on you
I don't want to be in that game
Don't want to follow the leader
No way
What's the use?
What's the point?
You got the wrong girl!
So you do what,
You're doing there,
'Cause ill be flying higher,
Waste your own time,
I don't care,
Anything you can do
I can do better!
All you girls you
Look up if if you can handle when I'm still here
Well
Your superficial I'm a misfit
But baby that's ok
All you girls when
You look into the mirror tell me how do you appear
Well,
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Your superficial I'm a misfit
So what we don't look the same
So what we don't
So what we don't
So what I don't play your game
So what I don't
So what I don't
So what if I don't?
All you girls you
Look up if if you can handle when I'm still here
Well
Your superficial I'm a misfit
But baby that's ok
All you girls when
You look into the mirror tell me how do you appear
Well,
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Your superficial I'm a misfit
All you girls you
Look up if if you can handle when I'm still here
Well
Your superficial I'm a misfit
But baby that's ok
All you girls when
You look into the mirror tell me how do you appear
Well,
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Your superficial I'm a misfit
But that's ok
The song "Misfit" by Amy Studt is an anthem for anyone who has ever felt like they don't fit in or belong. The lyrics speak to the struggles of trying to fit into a world that values conformity and superficiality over authenticity and individuality. The chorus, "All you girls you, look up if you can, handle when I'm still here, well, you're superficial, I'm a misfit, but baby that's okay," is a powerful statement of self-acceptance in the face of societal pressure to conform.
The song speaks specifically to the experience of women, who are often expected to conform to narrow standards of beauty and behavior. The reference to "hot pants" and "arse right out" suggests the pressure to look sexy and provocative. The mention of "VIP, member only things" and "happy clappers" suggests the pressure to belong to the right social groups.
The song also challenges the notion that there is only one mold that people should strive to fit into. The line, "So what we don't look the same, so what we don't play your game," suggests that there are many different ways to be a valuable and worthwhile person. Overall, Misfit celebrates individuality and encourages people to embrace their unique qualities, rather than trying to conform to someone else's idea of who they should be.
Line by Line Meaning
So you think you got it all worked out,
You believe you have everything sorted,
You got your hot pants on,
You are dressed seductively in hot pants,
You got your arse right out
You are flaunting your body in an immodest way,
You, think that you weren't something special,
You believe that you are not unique or exceptional,
Me and my drag dress we won't do at all,
My flamboyant clothing and I do not fit in with your idea of appropriateness,
I spent so long trying to fit the prototype
I have invested much time attempting to conform to societal standards,
Kept just sticking in years
I have been trying for years without any success,
And I never got it right oh
I have never been able to achieve what I thought was expected of me,
What's the use?
What is the purpose of trying?
What's the point?
What is the reason for putting in effort?
You got the wrong girl!
Your expectations do not align with who I am as a person.
So you do what,
Go ahead and do what you do,
You're doing there,
Carry on with your activities,
'Cause ill be flying higher,
I will rise above your pettiness,
Waste your own time,
Spend your time as you wish,
I don't care
I am unfazed by your actions,
Anything you can do
All that you are capable of doing,
I can do better!
I will do it better than you!
All you girls you
All of those in your group,
Look up if if you can handle when I'm still here
Watch and see how I handle myself and if you can match it,
Well
Indeed,
Your superficial I'm a misfit
You prioritize external appearances, while I do not fit in with the norms you adhere to.
But baby that's ok
However, that is OK,
All you girls when
Everyone in your group when,
You look into the mirror tell me how do you appear
Reflection on yourself and how you appear,
So you got your little groups and gangs
You have created small factions and exclusive circles,
You got your VIP
You have your elite and exclusive members,
Your member only, things
Members-only places or events,
You happy clappers
You are those that blindly follow popular trends,
And your VC crew
Your crew of vain and conceited individuals,
And if you get in their way
If you ever oppose or contradict them,
They got ten on you
They will have a powerful backing against you.
I don't want to be in that game
I do not wish to be part of that world,
Don't want to follow the leader
Don't want to blindly follow the crowd,
So what we don't look the same
It does not matter that we do not look similar,
So what I don't play your game
I am not interested in playing by your rules,
All you girls you
Your group of girls when,
Your superficial I'm a misfit
As you base your interactions mainly on appearance, I am not an ideal fit within this definition.
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Since you only focus on how things appear, I am an outcast.
Your superficial I'm a misfit
Your obsession with superficiality only makes me an outlier.
But that's ok.
Nonetheless, I am at peace with who I am.
