Her stage name is a homage to her love of The Bionic Woman and imagery of robots (as in Audio-Animatronics). Indeed, her arm is tattoed with a robotic interior. Other influences on her include Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. She has stated that in her eyes, the objective of the band is "about people displaying their fantasies on the outside, trying to break out of the everyday, and look like their dreams."
In 2004, Ana revealed to British magazine Glamour that her parents' marriage broke up when she was a toddler due to her father's homosexuality, and that her father died of an AIDS-related illness when she was 13. She has allegedly said that her immersion in gay culture is probably an attempt to feel closer to him, as they never had a very deep relationship whilst he was alive.
Following this article several British newspapers said Ana was allegedly trying to contact her late father's partner. She angrily refutes this on the band's official messageboard, saying that he had been a very important parental figure in her life and she did not need such measures to contact him.
In 2005, she featured on the New Order song and single, Jetstream. The single was taken from the band's album, Waiting for the Sirens' Call.
In the fan community for the Scissor Sisters, those fans who hold a special affinity for Ana are known as "nuns".

My plane will be arriving shortly
Right there at the gate
I pray that you'll be waiting right there for me
This time could be what
Our whole lives waking up
I'm coming back for more
(Leave your baggage behind, you won't need it tonight, enjoy your flight)
J-E-T (J-E-T)
You are so good for me (You are so good for me)
You are my jetstream lover
You're how I want to be (Just how I want to be baby)
J-E-T (J-E-T)
