The song has a very strong message and a personal link to Kállay: "I wrote this song about a childhood friend of mine, and people I have met with similar stories throughout my life. Unfortunately my friend was victim to child abuse, domestic violence. I wrote this song about their experiences and everything that they went though. I would like to raise awareness to this topic."
András Kállay-Saunders was born on January 28, 1985 in New York City to Hungarian model Katalin Kállay and American soul-singer and producer Fernando Saunders. Autumn of 2009, Kállay decided to visit Hungary to reunite with his mother as well as spending quality time with his grandmother.
During his visit, he noticed a TV commercial urging talented singers to audition for the nation’s talent competition Megasztár. Kállay finished fourth in the contest but gained a life-changing experience. He realised the doors were opened toward making a life-long dream come true with hard work and dedication. He went on to sign with Universal and permanently resided in Hungary.
Climbing to the top
In 2012, Kállay entered the Hungarian Eurovision national selection show A Dal, but he unfortunately came short of the finals. During this competition, he developed a pride towards one day bringing the big stage to the country that opened doors to his dream. In 2013 he entered A Dal again with his single My Baby and reached 2nd place. He still had the desire to represent Hungary in Eurovision and wasn’t going to give up trying just yet. While having many songs to his arsenal, Kállay felt it was time to show Hungary a deeper song and chose to send Running, a song inspired by a childhood friend, who grew up dealing with domestic violence and child abuse. Kállay wanted to give children and people in this situation hope. After great success throughout, Kállay ended the competition with the dream of showcasing his talents throughout Europe by representing Hungary in the Eurovision Song Contest coming true. He enjoys this accomplishment with a great deal of gratitude for his family, friends, fans, peers, and Hungary for the love and support that helped him along the way.

I'm standing in the same spot you broke my heart
We were 17
Juliet oh Juliet you said we'd be
Together till the end of time then rule the skies
Just you and me
Tell me did the story end
Tell me this is just pretend
Juliettttt
Refr.
What about the times we shared
What about the promises
What about the way your hand fit mine
What about the dreams we had
What about through good and bad
What about forever you and I
Juliet Juliet
Tell me the story never ended tell me now
Juliet Juliet
Tell me the story never ended tell me now
Juliet oh Juliet
If stars could sing
They'd lead you to my broken heart right to the start
With the sweetest melody
Ohhhh tell me did the story end
Tell me this is just pretend
Are there pages missing
Juliettttt
Refr.
What about the times we shared
What about the promises
What about the way your hand fit mine
What about the dreams we had
What about through good and bad
What about forever you and I
Juliet Juliet
Tell me the story never ended tell me now
Juliet Juliet
Tell me the story never ended tell me now
In the lyrics of "Juliet" by András Kállay-Saunders, the singer expresses deep sorrow and longing for a lost love, Juliet. The opening lines reflect the pain and confusion of being left behind, as he questions why she left and reminisces about the moment she broke his heart when they were just 17 years old. The reference to their young age emphasizes the innocence and intensity of their relationship at the time.
The singer recalls the promises Juliet made of being together until the end of time and ruling the skies together, creating a sense of a fantastical and eternal love story. The mention of ruling the skies suggests a sense of grandeur and passion in their relationship, something larger than life. However, as the singer grapples with the idea that their story may have ended prematurely, he pleads for confirmation and seeks reassurance that it's all just a bad dream or a missing chapter in their love story.
The chorus of the song repeatedly questions what happened to the shared memories, promises, and dreams they once had. The singer longs for the intimate moments they shared, the way their hands fit perfectly together, and the unspoken vows of being there through good and bad times. The longing for forever with Juliet is palpable in the lyrics, emphasizing the depth of the emotional bond they once had.
As the singer continues to call out Juliet's name with desperation, he uses imagery of stars singing to guide her back to his broken heart, symbolizing a longing for reconciliation and healing. The repeated questions of whether their story truly ended or if there are missing pieces imply a sense of incompleteness and yearning for closure. Ultimately, the lyrics of "Juliet" evoke a heartfelt plea for reconciliation, a desire to turn back time, and a hope that the love story with Juliet never truly ended.
