Ne me quitte pas
André Grassi/Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
On a vu souvent
Rejaillir le feu
D'un ancien volcan
Qu'on croyait trop vieux
Il est, paraît-il
Des terres brûlées
Donnant plus de blé
Qu'un meilleur avril
Et quand vient le soir
Pour qu'un ciel flamboie
Le rouge et le noir ne s'épousent-ils pas?
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Je ne vais plus pleurer
Je ne vais plus parler
Je me cacherai là
À te regarder danser et sourire et
À t'écouter chanter et puis rire
Laisse-moi devenir l'ombre de ton ombre
L'ombre de ta main
L'ombre de ton chien
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
Ne me quitte pas
The song "Ne Me Quitte Pas" by André Grassi; Orchestra is a plea from the singer to their love interest not to leave them, as they sing repeatedly throughout the song. The first verse expresses the desire to forget the misunderstandings and lost time in their relationship, as well as the painful moments that killed the happiness in their hearts. The chorus repeats the refrain "Ne me quitte pas" ("Don't leave me") several times, in a desperate plea to keep their lover from departing.
In the second verse, the singer offers extravagant promises to keep their lover, including pearls of rain from countries where it never rains, digging the earth until after their death to cover their lover's body in gold and light, and creating a kingdom where love reigns and the lover is queen. The chorus is repeated again, emphasizing the singer's intense desire for their love to stay.
The third verse involves the singer creating nonsensical words that their lover will understand, speaking of other lovers who have felt their hearts ignite twice, and telling the story of a king who died without being able to meet their lover. The chorus is repeated once again.
The final verse involves the singer deciding not to cry or talk any more if the lover leaves. Instead, they will hide and watch their lover dance, smile, and sing, becoming the shadow of their shadow, the shadow of their hand, and the shadow of their dog. The song ends with one last plea of "Ne me quitte pas," expressing the devastating pain that the singer would feel if their love were to leave.

@marybernstein6498 Just a little info for our readers 😉🤓
The story of Jezebel is a biblical tale from the Old Testament. Jezebel was a Phoenician princess who became the queen of Israel through her marriage to King Ahab. She is primarily known for her association with idolatry, wickedness, and conflict with the prophets of the God of Israel.
Here are some key points from the story of Jezebel:
Marriage to King Ahab: Jezebel married King Ahab of Israel, and her influence over him led him to engage in idol worship, particularly the worship of the Canaanite god Baal.
Promotion of Baal Worship: Jezebel actively promoted the worship of Baal and attempted to suppress the worship of the God of Israel. She ordered the construction of temples and altars dedicated to Baal and encouraged the prophets of Baal.
Persecution of Prophets: Jezebel is infamous for her persecution of the prophets of the God of Israel, including the prophet Elijah. She ordered the execution of many of them.
Naboth's Vineyard: One of the most well-known incidents involving Jezebel is the story of Naboth's vineyard. When Naboth refused to sell his vineyard to King Ahab, Jezebel orchestrated a false accusation against him and had him stoned to death, allowing Ahab to take possession of the vineyard.
Downfall: Jezebel's actions brought divine judgment upon her. The prophet Elijah prophesied her demise, and she met a gruesome end. According to the Bible, she was thrown from a window and her body was devoured by dogs.
Jezebel is often portrayed as a symbol of wickedness and idolatry in the Bible. Her name has become synonymous with a manipulative and malicious woman. The story of Jezebel serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of turning away from the worship of the true God and engaging in immoral and idolatrous practices.

Truly campy! They really messed up this story. They made Jehu a weakling, when he is the one who got her killed. Two eunuchs threw her down to the street when Jehu asked where their loyalties were. And Jezebel was eaten up by dogs.
