Dark Matter
Andrew Belle Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Just 'cause your heart's afraid
Doesn't give the right to say
I was born this way

You see the part you played
All the silhouettes you've made
Fleet the light of day
I wish I was innocent in a bad way
But I've found
You don't come after soldiers
Unless they were yours in the first place

Oh I swim in a violet sea
But I'm bending the light connecting you to me
So write a "lettre de marque" and see
Oh if this dark matter heart can bleed out right

Why do I push away
When your welcome is overstayed
All I breathe is gray
But through the disarray
You're the emissary vein
To my left right brain

Oh 'cause, I wish I was reticent in my own strength
But I've found
You don't hold your composure
When I say that with a straight face

Oh I swim in a violet sea
But I'm bending the light connecting you to me
So write a "lettre de marque" and see
Oh if this dark matter heart can bleed out right

See you brought your wits about you
The black bear that'll haunt you
If I can feel it, why do I need to see it, do I?
See you brought your wits about you
The black bear that'll haunt you
I don't see it, oh did I ever feel it, did I?
See you brought your wits about you
The black bear that'll haunt you

Oh I swim in a violet sea
But I'm bending the light connecting you to me

So write a "lettre de marque" and see
Oh if this dark matter heart can bleed out right

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Dark Matter" by Andrew Belle reflect on complex emotions and the notion of one's heart being in a state of darkness. The song seems to be narrated from the perspective of someone who is struggling with their deep-seated emotions, which may be causing them to push away the people who care about them. The opening lines "just 'cause your heart's afraid / doesn't give the right to say / I was born this way" suggest that the singer is aware of their heartache and emotions but may be unable to express them.

The lyrics go on to describe how the singer is searching for connections amidst the chaos and confusion of their own thoughts. The lines "Oh 'cause, I wish I was reticent in my own strength / But I've found / You don't hold your composure / When I say that with a straight face" express the struggle of the singer to keep their guard up to protect themselves from further emotional hurt, while simultaneously wanting to be vulnerable and allowing others to see their true emotions. The chorus, "Oh I swim in a violet sea / But I'm bending the light connecting you to me / So write a "lettre de marque" and see / Oh if this dark matter heart can bleed out right" portrays the singer's longing for understanding and for someone to help them navigate their emotions.

The final lines of the song, "See you brought your wits about you / The black bear that'll haunt you / I don't see it, oh did I ever feel it, did I? / See you brought your wits about you / The black bear that'll haunt you" add another layer to the theme of the song as the singer seems to be referring to a loved one who is trying to help them, yet they're struggling to connect with them.

+Mr.Unknown true! So many popular singers who are not even half as good as he is!

@Troller4512

+SaxophoneLover Artist Yeah,because the actual society sucks,in everything like humanity or whatever you want,just sucks.Of course,i wont judge on what people want to listen to,but really the young people just choose to listen crap music with no message in it,oh my bad a subconscious bad message,anyways,we have to thank Andrew that he makes music,for some like us,just calms the soul.

@ladynoir2593

+Mr.Unknown well said!

@codypeck9125

+Mr.Unknown I agree that Belle is a very good artist, but hearing is a sense just like sight. So just like it wouldn't make sense to ridicule others about their favorite color, it makes no sense to ridicule others for their favorite type of music. People can't control that some music is pleasing to their ears, even if that music is repulsive to the ears of others.
