Fantasy
Andy Bell Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Or was it real
All traces disappear
A smoke screen
A veil of tears
To wash away the years
Whatever the cause now baby
I promise I can make it alright
And I'll be your fantasy
The light in your window
Tells me there's somebody home
Is it you and him
I don't want to see you sharing your love
With no one else but me
Did I do wrong
Was it all in vain
Is all I need to know
Then I'll walk away
And cure the day
And hang my head in shame
I'm sick of the fight now baby
Maybe I should try to give in
The first verse of Andy Bell's song "Fantasy" is about uncertainty and confusion. The singer reflects on a past connection, asking himself whether it was a dream or reality. He describes the memory as faint and difficult to hold onto, obscured by tears and smoke. The lyrics suggest that the relationship has been marred by difficulties or challenges over the years, but he offers to make things right. The chorus reveals that the singer longs to be the object of the other person's affections and fantasizes about being the only one they love.
In the second verse, the singer takes a more pessimistic tone. He questions whether he has done something wrong in the relationship and considers leaving. He mournfully contemplates a future where he regrets his actions and feels ashamed. However, he doesn't want to fight anymore and is open to giving in to his love for this person. The song ends with the same chorus as before, emphasizing the longing and desire for the other person's affection.
Overall, "Fantasy" seems to capture the emotions of someone who is insecure in a relationship but desperately wants to be loved. Despite the struggles, the singer is willing to work through them and try to make things right. The lyrics also hint at a sense of competition or jealousy with an unnamed third party in the other person's life.
