Just a Little Bit
Andy Couzens/Brown/John Squire/Peter Garner/The Stone Roses Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Your thinking that you love him
Your careering off the track
Your too busy doing nothing
You don't see that it won't last
When your strung across the age gap
All your friends spin down the drain
And your the proof of that old cliche
If I could only have my time again

Hand on-off the handle
Where's your self respect?
Your water up all sucked ending
Where's your measurement now?

Think your the artful Dodger
You can only dodge for so long
And when fate it pulls your plug out
You'll wonder what went wrong

Hand on-off your handle
Where's your self respect?
Your water up all sucked ending
Where's your measurement now?

There's no way back
No way back
Just a little bit
Just a little bit

When your stung across the age gap
All your friends speed down the train
And your to prune that old cliche
If I could only have my time again

Hand on-off the handle
Where's your self respect?
Your water up all sucked ending
Where's your measurement now?

Nowhere fast
Nowhere fast

Just a little bit
Just a little bit

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Just a Little Bit" by The Stone Roses seem to be a cautionary tale to a young person who is not living their life to the fullest or making the most of their potential. The song speaks to a young person who is in a relationship that is not healthy or fulfilling and is drifting aimlessly, ignoring their responsibilities and the consequences of their actions. The chorus of the song says "there's no way back, just a little bit," which implies that a person can only waste so much time before it is too late to turn their life around. The line, "All your friends spin down the drain," suggests that the person's friends are also in a similar situation, and they are losing themselves to their vices and bad habits.

The song's title suggests that the person only needs to make a small change in their behavior to improve their life, but they are too stuck in their ways or too afraid to change. The line, "Think your the artful Dodger, you can only dodge for so long," likens the person's behavior to the famous character from Charles Dickens' "Oliver Twist," who eventually gets caught and punished for his crimes. Ultimately, the song seems to be about taking responsibility for one's actions and not wasting time on things that won't matter in the long run.

You're sad and weary watching if you'll ever go home home
Because it's long and lonely walking down the beach on your own on your own
On a beach in Normandy (On A Beach In Normandy) On A Beach In Normandy

You're looking but can you go to where a march is now (now)
Because you're lonely and if you're looking for a place to go (to go)

On a beach in Normandy On a beach in Normandy

Its cold and windy you haven't had a bite to eat, to eat
because you've spent your money
you'll end up begging on the street (on the street)
On a beach In Normandy On A Beach In Normandy
on a beach in normandy oooohh on a beach in normandy ooooh.

On your own. on your own. on your own. on your own.
your own. on your own.

I'm glad some of you like this song that me and John Squire wrote. It's about when i was traveling about Europe and was sleeping on a beach in Normandy under the stars.

What's strange is that this early demo fits the style they were playing from Sally Cinamom ('87) onwards - but not their first single (So Young, from '85).

I was thinking the same thing. I'we always wondered what Martin Hannett did with what was supposed to be the first album? He was a absolute genious working with Joy Division, but the production on Garage Flower is a mistory. Wonder what that album, and songs like Fall and Hearts on the Staves, would have sounded like if Leckie had produced it.

Man no words can't even compare early Roses to anything so unique 60s meets punk is the best I got

ChubbyChecker182

The Roses were Funky Punks and Trippy Hippies.
