Perfect little live
A perfect little house for my perfect little wife
One trip outta town a couple o lonely days
The whole thing turned around
By decisions that we made
Shadows down the hall
Two shadows on the wall
And now there's shadows in my head
Fightin' off a memory is just a losin' battle
No matter how hard I try
I can't outrun the shadows
Just a little secret
Just a little lie
Just a little comfort on a restless way night
She didn't see it comin'
I guess she didn't hear my keys
She didn't think I'd be home
She didn't think I'd see
Shadows down the hall
Shadows in the bed
Two shadows on the wall
And now there's shadows in my head
Fightin off a memory is just a losin' battle
No matter how hard I try
I can't outrun the shadows
My mind keeps findin'
Those intertwining silhouettes
Those dark reflections
Keep resurrecting and I just can't forget...
Shadows down the hall
Shadows in the bed
Two shadows on the wall
Now there's shadows in my head
Fightin off a memory is just a losin' battle
No matter how hard I try
I can't outrun the shadows
I can't outrun the shadows
The lyrics in Andy Griggs's song "Shadows" tell a story of a man who seemingly had it all - a great job, a lovely wife, and a perfect home. However, everything gets turned around when he goes out of town and makes a decision that changes everything. When he returns, he sees shadows down the hall, in the bed, and on the wall. These shadows represent the memory of his infidelity, and they're now stuck in his head. He tries to fight them off, but it's a losing battle. The shadows keep coming back to haunt him, and he can't forget about what he did.
The song highlights the difficulty of dealing with the consequences of our actions. The man in the story thought he could have a little secret, a little lie, and a little comfort, but it ultimately cost him his peace of mind. The shadows in his head don't let him escape from the reality of what he's done. The lyrics also suggest that cheating is a two-way street, and the effects of infidelity ripple beyond the perpetrator to affect everyone involved.
