Career
Youakim left home for New York to pursue a career in music. His stay was short-lived, but back home he worked on his music and in 1968 under the stage name Andy Kim, released the single "How'd We Ever Get This Way?" on the Steed label. That record made the U.S. Top Twenty. In 1969, Kim had two hit singles, "Rainbow Ride," which again made it into the U.S. Top Twenty, and "Baby, I Love You," which got to #5 and was popular enough in Canada to earn him a Juno Award as his country's "Top Male Vocalist."

That same year, with Jeff Barry, Kim co-wrote "Sugar, Sugar" which was a hit single for The Archies, reaching No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and ultimately becoming the RIAA Record of the Year. Barry and Kim found fortune as bubblegum pop songwriters. They wrote more songs for the Archies, and also for Changes, by The Monkees in 1970, which Barry produced.

Over the next few years, Kim recorded a few minor hits and toured North America extensively. In the fall of 1974, he released "Rock Me Gently", which went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and rose to #2 on the UK Singles Chart.

By the end of 1976, Kim stopped recording and disappeared from public life. He returned under the stage name 'Baron Longfellow' with a self-titled album in 1980 and, also under the same pseudonym, in 1984 released Prisoner by Design. Both of these albums met with moderate success. In 1991, Kim again went by the name 'Longfellow' and recorded the single "Powerdrive", which received radio airplay on several radio stations across Canada.

In 1995, Kim played at the Kumbaya Festival at which the Barenaked Ladies were also performing. Nearly a decade later, the band's Ed Robertson convinced Kim to come out of retirement.[1][2] Robertson co-wrote the song "I Forgot to Mention" with him and offered to produce the track. The single was released on a 5-track EP in 2004 which included a re-recording of "Powerdrive".

In March 2005, Kim received the annual "Indie Award" for Favorite Solo Artist during Canadian Music Week.[1] The music video for "Love Is...", released in the summer of 2005, reached #1 at Bravo.ca. In 2005, he co-wrote "What Ever Happened To Christmas" with Ron Sexsmith.[1] The same year, he established the Andy Kim Christmas Show - a live concert at the Mod Club in Toronto in which a variety of artists were invited to perform mostly Christmas music. Kim's band acted as house band for the artists, who donated their time for the show. Proceeds were donated to the CHUM/CITY Christmas Wish. The show repeated in 2006, with a similar lineup. Proceeds from the show went to support the Children's Aid Foundation, and the edited show was aired on Mix 99.9 on Christmas Eve and Day.

More recently, Kim's music has again come into the public eye, as his single "Rock Me Gently" was sped up slightly and used by Jeep for their Jeep Liberty commercial - 'Pouring In'. His name can be seen on the radio display near the beginning of the commercial.

my momma made it with tender loving care (tlc and the special ingredient is love. and sometimes it is tough love and it took me my whole life of 66 years to figure that out. and i have to include my father too. he was my best friend because i was his first son and i was his only dutch born son. he trusted me until his first dutch born evil statanistic daughter broke us apart. somehow i got drafted to take my pappa for his last lap on earth. i took him for his last trip for chemo to treat a blood disorder. it was i day i can never forget and it is now over 10 years ago and i saw it in his hands as he had a case of not being able the hold anything in his very big hands. i called it a case of dropsieys. i mentioned it to the nurses and it was ignored. i was his son but my ex sister flunkey fonce (my dad's favorite words and yvonne was loving nickname funnica and the best that i could say was fonce. when i looked fonce it was something dark like dark shadows and she loved barnabus collins and formed an alternate universe and my parents bonus love child that i helped in picking her name in 1964 was maryann. she could use mary as a first name and ann as the middle name or maryann as her first name and no middle name. but everyone calls her maryann. and worst of all she feels deprived of a middle name. i like to think that she would never earn an appropriate double middle name other than monkee lay (or laid) as she fooled around with a now known pedophile in the old neighborhood. i somehow ended up with my dad outside the court room. and i had to raise my hand against my father and maybe that was the trust he had in me. and i will accept that today. i must have had a double edged sword. i knew it was a sin to raise my hand against my father but if he had taken his conscripted royal dutch military training to strand that suma of a beach. my dad would be in jail for killing that somofa beach for screwing my ex sister as a underaged consenting minor. killing that flunkey for justice only gets dad thrown in jail with no way out but a really really great escape. i guess i choice the best i could and that i could do. keep my dad out of jail or break the first christian commandment honor thy father and mother. god i promise to do a better job in my next 60 years if you grant me forgiveness of breaking the first commandment and preventing my dad from breaking the sixth commandment thy shall not kill ( even if i wanted to kill something).

My dad died 12 hours ago, my last memory is a FaceTime call. He was 91, spent the last few weeks in bed. My dad and I actually climbed the hills and trees, he was a great hiker and climber. I started liking my first girl friend in 1963. We got married in 1967. She died of cancer in 2017, we were married for 50yrs, 6 months.
I was holding her hand when she took her last breath. Today, I am 75 and I have often wondered— when did I get old? It was so slow but yet so fast.
We listened to this song back in our youth but didn’t think much of it_——- until ( listened to it today. What memories it brought back to me.

Terry Jacks (the guy that wrote and sang Seasons in the Sun) lives in my small home town. He doesn't have a massive mansion or a fleet of Bentleys, but he never has to work, goes on lots of vacations, has a nice waterfront home, a nice boat, and lives a pretty normal existence. The best part is that he almost never gets recognized. It is the perfect mix of fame and fortune IMO.

Without a doubt--I am now 58 years old and I remember listening to this when I was a teenager--it still sends chills down my spine. Burying a child isn't the easiest thing in the world. I wouldn't wish this heartbreak on my worst enemy. When Seasons in the Sun came out I can remember listening to it over and over. I was a teenager and I am now 64 years old. My brother passed away in 1972 from alcoholism. A month before he passed away his daughter, Michele, passed away at the age of seven from leukemia. This song so touched me. After his daughter passed away he no longer wanted to live and chose to drink and gave up on life. I can remember crying over and over as I listened to it and I still do.

Sorry for your Loss. My first i said the L word to was named Michelle. I could not go to her Funeral as it hurt me too much. When my Mom passed away a few years back i did not go to her funeral. As i get older I can still feel my Mothers presence in Dreams. Which i have learned to Keep to myself.

My sister and I used to listen to her Dad's 45's as kids and this song, and Honey were both two of our favorite. She mentioned one time to have Honey played at her funeral but I didn't think it matched her scenario. She had also mentioned Wish You Were Here. She passed away late March and we just had her funeral. I played a female version of Wish You Were Here but am making a Playlist of all the songs she liked for her daughters. This and Honey are at the first of the list. It's amazing to know other people mention "Honey" as well when I read about this song.
