Beached
Angelo Badalamenti/Orbital Lyrics

It's Paradise
This is where the hungry come to feed
For mine is a generation that circles the globe
in search of something we haven't tried before
So never refuse an invitation
Never resist the unfamiliar
Never fail to be polite
Just keep your mind open and suck in the experience
And if it hurts, you know what it's probably worth it
You hope and you dream
But you never believe that
something is going to happen for you
Not like it does in the movies
And when it actually does
You expect it to feel different
More visceral
More real
I was waiting for it to hit me
I still believe in paradise
But now at least i know it's not some place you can look for
'Cause it's not where you go
It's how you feel for a moment in your life
And if you find that moment, it lasts forever
It lasts forever
Lasts forever
The song "Beached" by Angelo Badalamenti and Orbital begins with a soothing voice stating, "Trust me, it's Paradise. This is where the hungry come to feed." The first verse sets a tone of exploration and promises that by keeping an open mind and embracing new experiences, we may stumble upon something that lasts forever. The song focuses on the idea that we often search for happiness in external things, such as travel destinations, but happiness is fleeting when derived from external sources. Happiness and paradise are found within us and can be attained by embracing life's experiences.
The second verse of the song highlights how we hope and dream but rarely believe that anything significant will happen to us. When extraordinary events transpire, we may not recognize them as such because they don't resemble what we've seen in movies or in our imagination. The lyrics describe how the subtle moments in life can be the most profound if we allow ourselves to fully embrace them.
The chorus repeats the phrase, "I still believe in paradise, but now at least I know it's not some place you can look for, 'Cause it's not where you go, it's how you feel for a moment in your life. And if you find that moment, it lasts forever." Here, the song emphasizes that lasting paradise comes from within and can be found by living fully in the moment.

I had just gone off to college...it was the year 2000. We had an entire new millennium to look forward to. Y2k was on the lips, but nobody was scared. The internet was taking off but social media didn't even exist yet. We were young...we were so damn excited.

Not many songs that can say changed my life completely and now forms part of the soundtrack to my life. Been using the “keep your mind open and suck in the experience” mantra for 22 years now and has served me well. See you on the beach ❤

I first saw the film “The Beach” when I was travelling around Thailand about 15 years ago, when I was in my mid 20’s with no wife, mortgage or children, didn’t have a care in the world. Film absolutely blew me away and actually felt I was living in Parallel with the film. I’m 40 now and married with 2 kids. I still reminisce about my days travelling round the beautiful Thailand drinking Chang beer and dancing all night with my friends.
