Secret Crowds
Angels & Airwaves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

(If I had my own world)
(I'd build you an empire)

If I had my own world
I'd fill it with wealth and desire
A glorious past to admire
And voices of kids out walking dogs
Birds, planes, cleanest cars
If I had my own world
I'd love it for all that's inside it
There'd be no more wars, death or riots
There'd be no more police, packed-parking lots
Guns, bombs sounding off

If I had my own world
I'd build you an empire
From here to the far lands
To spread love like violence

If I had my own world
I'd build you an empire
From here to the far lands
To spread love like violence

Let me feel you, carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire
Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices sing back louder

If I had my own world
I'd show you the life that's inside it
The way that it glows when you find it
The way it survives with its families
Friends or its enemies

Let's make this a new world
I swear you can go if you want to
I know that you have it within you
Inventing the first clean and usable
God's greatest miracle

If I had my own world
I'd build you an empire
From here to the far lands
To spread love like violence

If I had my own world
I'd build you an empire
From here to the far lands
To spread love like violence

Let me feel you, carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire
Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices sing back louder

Let me feel you, carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire
Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices sing back louder

Let me feel you, carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire
Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices sing back louder

Let me feel you, carry you higher
Watch our words spread hope like fire

Secret crowds rise up and gather
Hear your voices sing back louder

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Secret Crowds" by Angels & Airwaves express a desire for a perfect world, one that is filled with love and devoid of the ugliness of reality. The singer of the song imagines a world where there is no war, no death, no riots, and no police. Instead, there are peaceful sounds of birds, planes, and kids walking their dogs. In this world, the singer would build an empire for their loved one and spread love like violence, hoping that their actions would bring hope and unity to the world.

The lyrics suggest an escape from the present reality into a better, more utopian world. The singer imagines a world where people are united in spreading peace and love, and where their voices are heard and celebrated. The phrase "let me feel you, carry you higher" hints at the idea of elevating people to a higher level of consciousness where they can experience this utopia.

Overall, "Secret Crowds" is a song about hope, love, and the desire for a better world where people are united in their pursuit of happiness.

Almost 15 years later I'm starting to appreciate AVA and Tom's choices in life more than ever. There's nothing more inspiring than someone who literally doesnt give a shit what everyone else expects you to do, and taking control of your own destiny.

donknotts85

So true… just guessing the “85” in your name is the year you were born, like me. We grew up with the best version of an iconic band in Blink 182. Never really got into AVA at the time of release, but am also currently starting to appreciate the music. Stay safe buddy.

People hate on Tom for doing what he does in that moment, but give it a few years and everyone gets it.

I mean, look at Neighborhoods. People panned that album and Tom in particular when it came out. Now everyone loves it all of a sudden.

@donknotts85 Just moved to San Diego and started listening to AVA more, just recently went to see them live it was great. Tom cracked jokes, talked about forming Blink 182, and shared some really deep personal stuff between songs. It was great.

THIS!

Agreed they always say about people “he’s crazy for walking away from the money”. DREAMS are always more IMPORTANT than making money(unless your dream is to make money which makes your intentions unpure)!!!!

Nah ur just lost surprised you ever heard this song

This song is no doubt legendary, but many bands had similar sounds even decades before. Not so much ahead of it's time but more so the mark of the end of an Era. I like to think the end is always more meaningful than the start.
