The Revelator
Angels & Airwaves Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Can you tell me your name girl?
Are you calling me out?
I walk in my way
Are you losing your faith?
'Cause you make lots of noise there
Are you looking for fires?
Or a group of more liars?
Are you using your faith?
When we all have a choice then
We act a like a man
Will you raise up your hands?
When the shit hits the fan
Turn white as a ghost
As the air leaves your throat
Will you throw me a rope?
Or go at it alone?

It's a little late
In a little while
Can we forget about it?
With a little lake
Have a little fire
Well take the fun out of it
Pour a little wine
Take a little meal
Pack a little bag
And a wallet
Get a bit of ice
And a heavy meal
There is no easy way out
As your pray for the end to come
All you'll get is a marching line
As you wait for the hounds of hell
You'll be in for a big surprise

Can you tell me your name girl?
Does the cat have your tongue?
Are you calling someone?
Are you waiting to run?
When the show will arrive
It will be right on time
So you better sit tight
It will be a great ride

It's a little late
In a little while
Can we forget about it?
With a little lake
Have a little fire
Well take the fun out of it
Pour a little wine
Take a little meal
Pack a little bag
And a wallet
Get a bit of ice
And a heavy meal
There is no easy way out
As your pray for the end to come
All you'll get is a marching line
As you wait for the hounds of hell
You'll be in for a big surprise
'Cause the end, it will never come
But were in for a few hard times
And well get knocked up down and done
But the truth is were still alive

Where are we going
Come on over
No ones dying
Were fine

As your pray for the end to come
All you'll get is a marching line
As you wait for the hounds of hell
You'll be in for a big surprise
'Cause the end, it will never come
But were in for a few hard times
And well get knocked up down and done
But the truth is were still alive
Where are we going
Come on over

No ones dying
Were fine

The lyrics of "The Revelator" by Angels & Airwaves explore the themes of faith, determination, and survival. The song seems to be directed towards a woman, asking her to reveal herself and encouraging her not to lose faith. The opening line, "Can you tell me your name girl?", sets this tone. Come on over. No one's dying. We're fine" is a message of hope and camaraderie, emphasizing the importance of community in persevering through difficult times.

The lyrics employ several metaphors to convey their message. The line "When the shit hits the fan, turn white as a ghost" paints a vivid picture of the fear and anxiety that can come with trying situations. The line "pour a little wine, take a little meal, pack a little bag, and a wallet" seems to suggest that the singer is preparing for a journey or escape. The chorus mentions hounds of hell and a marching line, symbols of danger and impending doom, but ultimately emphasizes that the end will never come.

This is by far one of my favorite A&A songs, and one of my all around favorite songs of all time.

Here's my take on "The Revelator."

We live in a time when so many young people (age 13-30) have made it a defining part of our culture to make jokes about wanting to die, wishing death upon themselves, and kidding about suicide because so many of us live lackluster, mediocre lives. However, many of us are still kicking it and still enjoying our lives for what they are. It's all good. Everyone simply needs a companion, a revelator, to reveal to them all the love/potential in this world. Much of "The Revelator's" message and meaning is expanded upon in "Inertia."

(Spoken outro from "Inertia")

"You've got to remember the good things, and cherish the memories, and go on with life cause it don't stop. You only have to remember that what you've done in your life may change what someone else is doing in their life"

"It's a little late -
In a little while
Can we forget about it?" -

-This is really what life is about; late nights with great friends and your beloved family having a fantastic time.
-We tend to forget nights like these, although holding it fondly in our memories as a great time.

"With a little lake
Have a little fire -
Well take the fun out of it" -

- For many of us, a night out in the elements is one of the most fun things you can just go out and do.
- By 'taking the fun out of it' he means absorbing all of that astonishing energy and letting it fill your heart.

"There is no easy way out
As your pray for the end to come
All you'll get is a marching line -
As you wait for the hounds of hell
You'll be in for a big surprise" -

- Although death is sought out by all of us facetiously, we understand this world is beautiful and there's so much for us to appreciate. The only death will bring you is a brisk celebration of your life until you ultimately fade away.
- Whenever we go through ruts and dark times in our lives, it eventually gets better and we come to the realization that there's so much in this world to put our hearts and passion into.

It may initially appear to be a complex song, but its meaning is actually quite simple and easy to understand. A revelator is someone who reveals. I really think this song is trying to say everyone needs a revelator in their life to pull them up out of whatever dark place they're stewing in and be able to enjoy themselves and the world they're in. This "revelator" could be a partner, a mentor, a brother, a sister, a parents, anyone. But no matter who you are, you need someone to show you the light, this also happens to be the main message in "The Flight of Apollo." Thanks for reading.
