In the early 1980s, Stone (as 'Angie B'), was a member of The Sequence, the first major female hip-hop group. They had a hit in 1980 with "Funk You Up". She then worked with Mantronix, before teaming up and performing vocals and saxophone for Lenny Kravitz.
Angie Stone emerged during the 1990's as part of hip-hop/R&B trio Vertical Hold which released the popular single "Seems You're Much Too Busy" as well as two albums: A Matter Of Time (June 1993) and Head First (1995).
In 1996, she teamed up with Gerry Deveaux (Lenny Kravitz's cousin from The Bahamas) and together with Charlie Mole they formed Devox. One album received a Japanese-only release including Stone-penned or co-written material.
Angie Stone shared song-writing credits on D'Angelo's first two studio album's (1995 - Brown Sugar and 2000 - Voodoo) as well as providing backing vocals on tour with him.
She released her first solo album, Black Diamond, released on 28 September 1999 via Arista Records. She has since also released, via Clive Davis' J Records, Mahogany Soul on October 16, 2001 and Stone Love on July 6, 2004.
Much of Angie Stone's solo material has a significant hip-hop influence and features notable samples. For example, her first solo single, 1999's "No More Rain (In This Cloud)" samples Gladys Knight & the Pips' 1972 "Neither One Of Us (Want To Be The First To Say Goodbye)", and 2002 "Wish I Didn't Miss You" samples The O'Jays' 1972 "Back Stabbers".
Angie Stone sings the theme song for the UPN sitcom Girlfriends.
She has two children, a daughter and a son. The son is the child of neo-soul singer D'Angelo, whom she dated during the 1990's.

Pissed Off
Angie Stone Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Tired, feeling all that, you know what I'm sayin'?
Positive, you know what I'm sayin'?
Check it
[Chorus]
So pissed off
Lookin' at life through the glass that you
Little shit like love doesn't matter anymore baby,
Whats up?
Nigga, you so ticked off
Can't let up long enough to get over it
Brother can I live, can a sister live
God damn
I tried to find a tree where we could lay happily
In the shade, gradually there were things revealed
To me
I can't even hold down a job, tryna follow up and
Behind me
You're over-protective and you're jealous
Change when you're around the fellows
Every man I speak to, something's goin' on
Look at you, look at you, running around like a damn
Fool
So busy accusing me, when it's your insecurity
[Chorus]
You need an inner appeal so your anger just relieve
I never meant to cause you pain
But it was there before I came
Makin' crazy accusations, tracing all of my
Footsteps
For reactin', got me packin' tryin' to get out before you
Get back in
Look at me, look at me, I can't allow you to live
Rent free
In my heart or in my head, can't let you back in my
Bed
[Chorus: x2]
Baby, what's wrong with you
What's got you so pissed off
Can't get along with you
Love, I got to move on
My love, gotta get him outta my life
Can't let you go on with it
Now 'cause you pissin' me off
I don't want to be stressed out
I don't want to be stressed out
My life, back in my life
[Chorus: Repeats]
In Angie Stone's song "Pissed Off," she sings about a relationship that has gone sour. The song's theme centers on how someone in a relationship can become so preoccupied with their anger and jealousy that they cannot trust the other person. The lyrics explain how Stone's partner has become increasingly paranoid, accusing her of infidelity without any evidence. She pleads to be given a chance to live her life without constant scrutiny and mistrust. The chorus is an expression of anger and frustration with the situation—she is "so pissed off" that her partner has shattered the glass through which she once viewed life.
The verse reveals that Stone's partner is overprotective and jealous, leading her to feel that she cannot even hold down a job. She explores the root cause of her partner's insecurity and sees that he changes his behavior when he is around other men. She feels suffocated by the accusations and scrutiny, making her feel the need to leave. In the bridge, she pleads with her partner to find inner peace and anger relief, expressing that she has never intended to cause him pain. She needs to end the relationship and keep her life stress-free.

This song is a lyrical masterpiece. It paints such a vivid picture that it almost brings tears. Another one is Mary J Blige's "Your Child". "Looking at life through the glass that you shattered" gets me every time.

Angie would have fit into the 70's and 80's perfectly. These days, if you ain't ass naked and weighed down by weave, you don't get noticed. I respect her so much more for stayin' true to herself. Her music is classic, even if it is under appreciated.
