Stranger
Angus and Julia Ston Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In a sunset park,
We move through the crowd.
I kissed your lips,
There was no one around,
There was no one around.

In a house made of glass,
There's a boy throwing rocks.
He loves like his last cause
Your hearts all you got,
Yeah your hearts all you got.

And it's been so long,
Since you've been round.
I've never missed a stranger before.
I think it's nice
It's Judas's call
I've never missed a stranger before, like you.

She wore lace round her hair
And she looked like a queen.
With eyes so fair,
She was something of a dream,
Yeah she was something of a dream

Cause it's been so long,
Since you've been round.
I've never missed a stranger before.
I think it's nice
It's Judas's call
I've never missed a stranger before, like you.

Cause it's been so long,
Since you've been round.
I've never missed a stranger before.
I think it's nice

It's Judas's call
I've never missed a stranger before, like you.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Angus and Julia Stone’s "Stranger" is a romantic tale of a couple in a park kissing in the midst of a crowd. The chorus repeats that it’s been so long since this stranger has been around, yet the singer has never missed a stranger in this manner. The lyrics’ meaning is somewhat ambiguous, but it seems as though the singer is speaking to someone they’ve never met before but feel as though they know them very well. This sentiment is echoed in the line, “Your hearts all you got, Yeah your hearts all you got,” which suggests that the person they are speaking to is someone who has also experienced emotional hardship, as well as the idea that perhaps the heart is the only thing one can truly trust in this fast-paced world.

The second verse introduces a boy throwing rocks in a house made of glass. This verse could be said to represent the fragility of love in the modern world. Love can be as fleeting as a rock thrown at a windowpane. The last two lines of the verse reiterate the sentiment from the first verse that the only thing you can trust in this world is your heart.

The last verse describes a girl with lace in her hair who looks like a queen. The lines “I’ve never missed a stranger before, like you” sum up the main idea of the song. The singer has never felt this way about someone they’ve just met. It’s a beautiful sentiment that speaks to the intoxicating feelings of love.

I don't listen to this kind of music. I preffer violent drops of dubstep. But this is just amazing. And it's not just this song, other songs from these artists as well. You Sir (and Ma'am) have my respect!
